"Everyone is thinking way too hard here....Keep it simple!"

Everytime I tell myself that I've said all I have to say, a post like that comes along. The whole point I am trying to make is that it is NOT simple in any respects. From the prep work right up until you perform it it is anything BUT simple.

This is a forum to help others make up their minds by telling them the good and the bad. Making posts just saying it's the best trick of 2006 without mentioning any of the issues that the buyer will have to deal with is not fair to anyone reading this thread.

I'm glad that you stunned a number of people with it. But you know it wasn't a "simple" matter. You finally made some quick mention of your solutions to the problems with it after they were brought up by others.

You say you are not writing a review because of the tone of this thread. Then you post

"To solve the cold key problem, I have the spectator place the key in a small suede bag and have the spectator cover the bag with both hands. When bag is opened, key is bent. Simple enough...Gotta think...OK??? Use your imagination!!

This was one of the best buys for me in 2006!!"

That kind of thing is not helpful. It's a sarcastic remark followed by a suggestion that defeats the entire purpose of the effect.

I am trying to make my posts in accordance with what the spirit of the Café is all about. Helping others. I am not bashing the creator, the effect, you, or anybody else. I am simply trying to help others make an informed purchase. We are not talking about a $10 effect you can throw in the junk draw if it's not what you thought. For those people like you, who can deal with the limitations, I wish you the best and I hope you continue to do well with it.

I want to see this thread continue on an even course. You seem to just want to throw in a few words of hype and leave it at that. My hope is that people will buy this effect, but buy it with some idea of what to expect from it. PSI Key is a good idea and can work in many situations if the person knows what to expect and is willing to work around the limitations to perform it. If they buy it knowing what to expect and then complain about it, I won't feel bad for them. On the other hand, if someone just read the hype and thought it was a simple, no prep, do anywhere anytime 100% reliable effect and then was angry, I would sympathize. I was there.

You don't have to help anyone with a detailed review, but don't blame the "tone" of the thread. It's simply an honest exchange of ideas and thoughts.

JOYCE, have you tried playing with it anymore to see if you can improve on some of the handling problems you had? Also, have you considered Jesse's ideas about having a reason why the key would be cold? This would be a good effect for someone who does magic behind a bar. They have a freezer and plenty of cold drinks around. Under the right conditions and settings, this can really be a killer effect.

I agree with Ibd1Mon99 and appreciate the candid posts he has left. This isn't about being creative or cute. Not everyone is going to think this is the best trick of 2006 by a longshot.

There are people, including myself, who would be downright upset at the technical requirements and set up with this. I'm glad some members are honest enough to throw out some constructive criticism and evaluation.

Some members need to be more honest about evaluating a product rather than promoting it to death.

Why should I review a product and then wait to get it shredded to pieces? I will only post a review to individuals if they request one and only then will I discern if member is deserving of a review!! The Café has turned into a viscious attack on magicians and products especially from young and cheap amateur magicians.

"I will only post a review to individuals if they request one and only then will I discern if member is deserving of a review!! The Café has turned into a viscious attack on magicians and products especially from young and cheap amateur magicians."

I won't ask who you consider "deserving" of a review.

Is that a blanket statement about the Café in general or is there a certain thread where magicians are getting visciously attacked. I looked around and I haven't seen any threads where anyone is getting visciously attacked, unless you are referring to a thread that has been closed down, or if you are referring to the attacks you made in your last post.

These "young and cheap amateur magicians", what have you got against young magicians? I am in my 40's, but I know many YOUNG magicians who are very nice people. As far as them being cheap, how do you know they are cheap and not just spending their money wisely? There is a big difference.

Your posts seem very angry and now you seem to be attacking Café members. There is no need for that. People come here to learn, not get insulted by their fellow members. So far this thread has been honest, informative, and according to tdodwell, helpful. Maybe you can link to that thread you were talking about where people are visciously attacking others and we can direct them here so they can see what a helpful, informative thread where people and products are not bashed, but discussed openly and honestly is like.

With that said, please keep the discussion about the PSI Key and not personal attacks. Nobody is attacking you (or anyone else) here.

tdowell, if you decide to buy PSI Key, I'd be happy to share some helpful tips I picked up about working with this metal. This really is a cool effect (no pun intended) Smile

Slydini62,

I cannot agree that your comments" The Caf's has turned into a viscious attack on magicians and products especially from young and cheap amateur magicians. "

Joyce only tell us about the problems with the PSI key, which is the fact. As a magic collector I have collected nearly 95% metal bending props on the market and some underground's. These kind of Memory Metal, alloy, Nitinol devices remembering a previously memorized shape. It has to be deformed in its low temperature phase Martensite and subsequently heated to the high temperature phase. The temperature is the main factor, even you have a freezer near you, you still hard to control it , sometimes it will bend immediately just like joyce said 10 degree bended up.

Year ago Yuval Keren ( the creator of Bending Fork )have an idea to put a bending nail to the market. But when the prototype came out we both found it is impossible to keep the nail straight when it is out of the freezer. If we launch it to the market we sure will receive a lots of complains. So we have give up.

Of all my collections, bending fork is the best which you can found on the market. Beside that I like most is the bending telephone headset which I got from Japan.

Only4card, have you discovered any tips for getting better results with the metal? I hope Joyce doesn't give up too quick. The PSI key deserves to have some time spent on it to explore all the possibilities.

I never heard of the bending telphone headset. Got a link?

Ibd1Mon99,
If you have the fork ,drill a hole on it's container and spray the XXXX inside. You can get a stronger spray at electronic suppllier. You will have a better result.

Telephone headset is not a commercial product. The headset is made of Memory Metal, another gimmick is inside the phone. So the bend is very visual and impressing.

Already sold the fork. I was wondering though, since the PSI Key is smaller than the fork, should the key be easier to control if you time it right? You seem to know more about that metal than me.

Ibd1Mon99,

There is something that I don’t understand : you’re the most prolific person on this thread, BUT you do not own PSY KEY. How can it be?

- Joyce received it and he is not happy with his purchase, he told us why. That is usefull for the thread.

- Piers seem very happy with his purchase.

- Slydini62 is very happy with his purchase and you try to convince him that he is not ! ! !

You’ve been very disappointed with the bending fork. We got this. But PSY KEY has nothing to do with the bending fork except the principle.

Hank Lee world known dealer wrote

“I think it is an amazing item, honestly one of the best produced items we have carried in a really long time. And, you know I am not just saying that! It is very professionally made, well produced, excellent instructions and a really nice package.”

Paul gross respected magic dealer

“I must say that of all the new products we recieved this year I think that this is the best one! It is beautifully mfg. and is quality through out. Simple to use and practical If you purchase this I guarantee you will not be disapointed. This is one that you will use and not end up in the drawer.”.

Since you do not own PSY KEY, I do not really understand how you can have opinion about it.

This thread is supposed to be “magician helping magicians”. Let’s talk people that owns it don’t you think ?

However, if you have questions about PSY KEY I’ll be happy to answer it on this thread or PM. You can also look a full data sheet that explains everything in detail at :

http://www.magicby.com

Yves Doumergue

PS : The key has not to be ice cold to stay straight ! It stays straight until 73.4°F. And even if it’s colder that the room temperature, people are used to feel cold when touching a piece of metal…

"There is something that I don’t understand : you’re the most prolific person on this thread, BUT you do not own PSY KEY. How can it be?"

I couldn't tell you. Perhaps other people are familiar with you and they didn't want to risk having you chastise them in public.

"Slydini62 is very happy with his purchase and you try to convince him that he is not ! ! !"

Please show me where I tried to convince him he's not happy. Just the opposite. I made a few posts telling him that I was happy it was working for him. Perhaps you are not fully reading or understanding my posts.

"You’ve been very disappointed with the bending fork. We got this. But PSY KEY has nothing to do with the bending fork except the principle."

I LOVE this one. The principle has EVERYTHING to do with it! that's like saying an Invisible Deck made with Tally Ho's has nothing to do with an Invisible Deck made with Bicycles except for the backs. Again, if you go back and read my posts, you will see that they just involve the principle, not the effect. Since you just said that your key has the same principle as the fork, and I had the fork, why would it be improper for me to comment on it?

"Hank Lee world known dealer wrote

“I think it is an amazing item, honestly one of the best produced items we have carried in a really long time. And, you know I am not just saying that! It is very professionally made, well produced, excellent instructions and a really nice package.”"

What does that have to do with anything? Mr Lee is entitled to his opinion of that effect just like everyone else. I am not trying to change Slydinis mind and I am not trying to change Mr. Lee's mind. I will point out, however, that in general I don't recall ever seeing a dealer writing a negative quote about a product they are selling and will profit from. Again, that is in no way a reflection of Mr. Lee or any specific dealer for that matter. Just my observation after decades of purchasing magic.

"Paul gross respected magic dealer

Simple to use and practical If you purchase this I guarantee you will not be disapointed. This is one that you will use and not end up in the drawer.”"

See above.

"Since you do not own PSY KEY, I do not really understand how you can have opinion about it."

You already covered that one......same principle, remember? Regardless of that, are you trying to tell me that you can't understand how people can form opinions on things they don't own?

"This thread is supposed to be “magician helping magicians”. Let’s talk people that owns it don’t you think ?"

YES! This thread IS about magicians helping magicians. This is NOT about creators coming onto a thread and chastising someone who is having a discussion with other members because it may be causing a pause in the hype. I have been told by more than one person that they appreciate my help.

Do you have such little faith in your effect that you think your sales will be hurt because of some comments on the PRINCIPLE, that of which I am familiar with? I hardly think offering my honest opinion will bankrupt you.

As the creator of this effect it's nice that you are on the thread to answer any questions of concerns, but trying to silence comments by members that may affect your bottom line is not the intent of this thread or the Café in general.

Since this thread is not intended for your personal gain, I would respectfully ask that you let this thread get back on track so other members can post their questions and comments without feeling they may receive a personal attack from you. I have said nothing but nice things about you. If I have any issues with you personally, I will handle them as they should be, in private, like your post to me should have been.

Jeff,

It seems that you're an expert in argument. I'm not.

Here are the facts : You speak and give opinion about something that you do not own.
Even if it's the same principle than your car, can you really give your opinion about driving a Bugatti ?

I deeply respect people sharing their experiences with my products, even if they do not like it.Re-read my post

Did I tried to stop you writing on this thread ?

Re readmy post (again) :

"However, if you have questions about PSY KEY I’ll be happy to answer it on this thread or PM."

I'll answer questions about PSY KEY. If you have one

Pointless arguing guys. I'll help by ending it here. We value both of your opinions, and you both make good points. Lets just start fresh with a new review or question to the inventor. Hope this helps! Smile

I'll be adding a review in about 1 week, when I can purchase this PSI KEY. I'm excited! And the key looks really quality. Will it last for ever? Does it require careful handling like the wire gram effect? Thanks... -Jesse

Got mine today, for me it's a killer. Tested the time- before activation and thanks to british weather it was still straight after 40 minutes. Floored the spectators with it, plus I have an interview with a reporter in two weeks and this will be featured I have full faith in this, as we say in the uk "it's the nuts".

well done Yves

Yves Doumergue,

I just wanted to say a couple of things. First I want to thank the Magic Café staff for not getting involved. I was sure that because a dealer who pays for a banner is indirectly involved, that I would surely get a PM asking me to ease up or something. They just sat back and let us handle it like gentlemen. Kudos.

Yves, I wasn't out for an argument. I wasn't out to knock your product or say anything negative about you. I actually stopped having anything productive to say about 2 pages ago but a certain member got my goat with his comments, and I'm sorry to say that I let it get to me and kept replying. After getting a couple of PM's from him containing childish name calling, I looked back at the posts and realized how foolish I was to let myself get sucked into that situation and I am ashamed of myself.

The reason I initially posted here was simply to relate my experiences with this certain metal so others would know that this particular material did have some issues I believed were important to relate. I have done that. I have no reason to comment any further regarding this material because there really is nothing more that can be said. I pretty much covered it all and everyone who purchases it now will have done so knowing they may have to put a little work into it. That doesn't make it a bad thing by any means. I actually believe that that will make for happier customers as people won't buy your effect and then gripe that they actually had to spend some time and practice with it.

I don't want to discourage anyone from trying out PSI Key. I have always thought it was a great looking effect and have said so on more than one occasion. I am sure there are many people out there willing to work hard to make a killer routine with PSI key, and I am sure you will be there to help all those that purchase your effect should they have any handling problems.

If I seemed upset with you when I replied to your post, it was probably because after dealing with a certain person, I then read your post which I felt should have been in a PM. You did nothing wrong. You had every right to make it an open letter regardless of whether I think it's right or not. You are a member here too and I seem to have forgotton that when replying to your post. I think you are a very talented man with a creative mind who has much to offer to the magic community.

You know my thoughts on memory metal, but that was a long time ago and I really didn't put a whole lot of time into trying to make it work. If you are a gambling man, you can send me a PSI Key and I will provide a fair unbiased but brutally honest review. This time though, I'll put a lot more time into practicing than I did with that fork! Smile

I noticed you wrote a reply to me since I last was online yesterday. I honestly haven't read it yet because I had this letter all planned out before writing it and didn't want anything I read to change what I wanted to say. I will read it after I hit the send button though....I hope you were nice!..LOL I also noticed Jesse wrote something. I KNOW he wasn't nice!

Take care Mr Yves Doumergue, and I really do wish you success with PSI Key.

Thanks for your post.

I can assure you that after practicing the basics it will get a thourough work out in a variety of settings. You are indeed a gentelman and you obviously believe strongly in this effect to let this in MY hands, but I promise to be fair and honest.
