If you choose to purchase it, remember it is in your hands: http://www.break.com/index/knife_in_cup_magic_accident.html

For an effect where the future functionality of your hand is possibly at risk, I think the method should be discussed to put peoples minds at ease. If I knew the method was sure-fire safe, I'd purchase it. But since its workings cant be discussed, I'll probably pass on it. Maybe someone should come up with a realistic retractable blade version!!! lol

Oh please, just cut yourself a sponge spike...paint it black and go with the sponge railroad spike of death illusion(you can do this one with your forehead at only the risk of a mild concusion). At least you'll amaze your audience 2 out of every 3 performances on average. Houdini would must be flipping in his coffin(aside from the fact he can't get out of it) at the wimpiness displayed in this thread.
If you read the past posts it appears obvious that this effect is totally safe for anyone with a 3 digit IQ. If anyone didn't get enough from these posts to make an intelligent decision on the safety of this purchase then go to web.tickle.com. If you don't score over 99 then read brilliant sponge-spike idea above. Instead of taking the time to take an IQ test I think I'll just order Spiked. If nothing else I can make this a chapter in my upcoming "Darwinism for Dummies" book. You same people better stay away from metal disappearing cane, razor blade eating illusion and gut buster too. Expect the same non-revealing, ambiguous and non-disclosing review from me as well. Wow...after re-reading my forehead smashing sponge spike of death routine above...I may be so on to something! Stay tuned! Ahhh...someone will have ripped off this cool idea before I wake up this morning. |

If you use a spectator's hand for this, you are a fool, and you are doing a disservice to the art. Watch the videos, people. And above all, RESPECT the people who come to your shows. Even if it is %110 safe, even giving the illusion of putting a guest from your audience in harms way will damage your reputation and the reputations of your colleagues. Do us all a favor and keep the risk to yourself.

Oh heck no! Hecklers are a class of sub-human that most rules are not applicable to. Spike away! Thank Michael Richards(Kramer) for raising the bar for what is acceptable retalition towards hecklers. I hope I get a heckler in my first Spike performance. It will definately make for a more entertaining review.

Any Uk dealers selling this??
I think this effect will always get great reations, it has everything with that lovely thing the audience always likes to see 'Danger' beacuse secretly they want you to mess up and put that spike through your hand........in the words of Paul Weller 'Thats Entertainment' I think I will be getting this.....could play well with the stand up!! |

110 percent safe, what else do you guys want. How could you ask for someone to actually explain the safety features on this one without giving away the secret? Nothing is 100 percent safe, in the wrong hands a pack of cards could be dangerous so when I'm told that something is 110 percent safe I'm satisfied that unless I do something out of the ordinary I'll be fine. I don't have SPIKE but I feel pretty sure that its as safe as possible.

Excellent demo vid!
I feel like I've seen enough to not even need a review. Looks great!
Like Bonnie Raitt said, "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 8 years old." Thanks for the concerts + recordings, Lowell, Richie, and Paul!

Yet, in the heat of the moment, the magician could slam the wrong cup. It happens very rarely, but as you can see on the net, many knowledgeable magicians has failed. I wouldn't want to buy this effect without knowing the secret. This is not a card effect where you buy the secret. This is a utility device where you buy the prop. |

I don't think any effect is going to be sold with the secret revealed for safety's sake...
Anyone who knows how this is done would agree- as earlier suggested, that the effect is safe and that the only way it could go wrong is through someone making a really big stupid mistake... So as long as there are stupid people out there, there's no guarantees... If such guarantees were given, they'd be immediately followed up by a lawsuit from someone with a hole in their hand. But this is an effect like any other, that needs to be learned- and if you learn it properly, and know what you are doing, there's no risk whatsoever.. If you are really so worried about the tiny fraction of a possibility of something going wrong- then the easy answer is, don't buy it.. Otherwise, buy it and enjoy it...
When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth...

I just ordered it so I should have a review next week. I can tell you from speaking with hocus pocus that it does use a real steel spike so yes...if you flip out and think you deserve to be impaled...yes you certainly could be. If you are the nervous type that makes crazy nonsensical decisions under pressure....don't get this effect. It really seems there is enough information in this thread to make a fairly well informed decision. If there was no seeming element of impending danger it wouldn't be much of an effect.

I tell you I watched that You Tube butchery again last night and cringed. It bothers me more then a horror movie. Those interviews with other magicians make it worse.
Hey, it could be better then exposure for those of us who perform this. Get this, someone in the audience has seen that footage and are aware of the dangers of this. Would make the anticipation that much more real.
