I just wanted performers in New England to know about this - Avner will be at the Lyric Stage in Boston:
Avner the Eccentric’s “Exceptions to Gravity” Avner Eisenberg, best known as the loveable holy man, “The Jewel,” in the popular film, The Jewel of the Nile, brings his award-winning show to the Lyric Stage Company of Boston for the holiday season. Avner lives in a world that is a celebration of the amazing cussedness of ordinary things. He battles his environment, solving problems in ways that have to be seen to be believed. At one point, he devours a plate of paper napkins with the delicacy of Chaplin savoring his boot. Critics have compared him to Chaplin and the Marx Brothers. “At certain points, Eisenberg’s dexterity and timing become so inventive that his routines pass over from humor into beauty,” said The Washington Post. http://www.lyricstage.com/Avner.htm “Brilliant! Hurt yourself, hysterically funny!” said Joel Siegel of ABC-TV. “When the show was over, they had to drag me kicking and screaming out of the theater. I wanted more!” Performances November 24 – December 23. $5 off for performances through Saturday December 2nd when you mention the discount code “magic” Box Office: 617.585.5678 |

Thanks for the heads up, Mike. I saw Avner several years ago in Burlington, Vermont, and he is truly an original. Avner does not do anything that could be considered standard. He takes magic, and everything else he does, to a whole different level. I'm going to try to get down to Boston with my kids; they haven't seen him yet.

I attended a performance workshop taught by Avner at the 1998 jugglers convention. He is both eccentric and a great performer.

Do any of you guys remember the PBS special with the Flying Karamozov Brothers and Avner called "A Comedy of Errors"? It was on PBS about a million years ago.

Haven't seen him in years and years, and I would love to do so again. Was fortunate enough to have dinner with him when he was last in town. Great performer, and truly a gentle soul.

I'll never forget years ago when he was performing at our High School. A fire alarm went off and no one (students or faculty) reacted.
Finally he stopped, broke character and said "Um, that's not part of my act." Darn those random fire drills anyway... |
