When creating your routine, spontaneously or not, when do you actually use Solid Deception? Where do you place it in the routine? It seems only fitting to me to place it at the end of a routine and do the best possible unnoticed deck switch you can, so that everything seems perfect. But then, one of the selling points of the trick (the beginning, where you casually toss the card out), seems to be a defeated purpose.

Are you talking of Paul Harris' effect?

OK, I would do nothing else than switching the deck at the end of a sequence, and use it then. Maybe you perform an Ambitious Card with raising interest, then let the card being signed (switch while taking out a marker). There are still 2 "loose" cards, and the signed one to "prove" that the deck is still "normal". Although, I think that there is no need to emphasize that. Just do the Tilt/Depth move, going along with your Ambitious pattern. As a climax, you state that the spectator may now put the card back anywhere in the deck, shuffle, etc., but you will still be able to bring the card on top. Leave him/her the signed card, palm off the top card(s), and give him/her the block. Let it sink...and enjoy! And don't try to top it with another effect (especially not with a card trick). Just leave the place and the spectators with their picture in mind.
And please... never ever switch it back again to show that you can fan the cards again. It is the worst and most anticlimactic thing that you could do. I once saw a fellow who did this. It ruined everything. I could not understand it. Hope I could help you. |

These are good points. I WAS considering it for a lead-in to bringing out an Invisible Deck, or even a closer to the Vanishing Deck. But, very apparently, it will kill as a closer, huh?

It surely is one of the strongest endings. And don't let it vanish...people will all try to examine it instead. There is no place for another effect when they are occupied with examining...

and read Thoughtreader's clever suggestion, using Paul Harris' Vanishing Deck to start.

Evolve629 - In AOA, Paul suggests this himself, with Reset (I believe) as the middle trick.
