100s is the way to go in my opinion. I have actually had to break them down quite a bit but it is worth it and you almost forget about them if they are tucked away safely for an emergency. For the record, isn't it 505 dollars and not 606 dollars ? Just thinking about it and I think it is 505 total. Still a lot of cabbage but 100 less to be stolen from you. lol

When people want you to change a $1.00 bill into anything, it is always a $100. I agree with Pete about Fred Kaps as I have used his routine for many years. I think it is important IMHO to decide what your approach is going to be and use accordingly. I still use Kaps and Hundy 500. Both are good.

Usually I am by myself, and I am just not comfortable turning 5s into 100s infront of people I have never met before lol.

Of course turning $1's into $100's is impressive. I also like the thinking behind Dan Paulus & Bob Sheets routines!

This whole discussion is why I have always felt that Hundy 500 was inferior to 3D Cash. It gives you the flexibility for either option. I still carry the original packet with me every day that I made up 2 years ago and it has seen "hundreds" of performances.
I would say 95% of the time, I go from $1s to $10s to $100s. But if you are in those situations where you think you could get mugged after a show, you can stop at the $10's. I agree that the $100's add a perception of success when I do corporate strolling gigs. 3D Cash also gives you a great patter stigma by saying that you like to add a zero to the bill. Inevitably, people will always say after you show the $10's, "well if you can put one zero on, why not two"...and off you go. A lot of times, people will then jokingly pull out a $1 and say, here let me give you a couple of mine to change. As I slip the packet back into my pocket, I slip on my thumb tip, take their dollar and do a mismade bill. Doubles the impact and triples the laughter. Literally booked a corporate strolling gig last night doing 3D Cash and the mismade bill. In situations such as that, I let the spectator keep the mismade bill. Obviously worth the cost of the bill to me to get the gig. |

The only think I like about 3D Cash is the change, I stole that and use it instead of the one Greg teaches for Hundy. But I am just not comfortable with the size of the 3D Cash gimmick.

I agree with you on the 3D Cash gimmick. That thing is huge and I have a hard time lining everything up right.

With Hundy, I completely feel that you need to change the bills to hundreds. Not saying that you won't get good reactions with less than hundreds, but for me, I absolutely hate it when people follow the trick with "Hey, can you turn them to hundreds!" This happens almost all the time.
I think that turning them to lower currency is "cool" but ask yourself how many times do people ask you to go higher. Turn them to hundreds, and that question is never asked. Besides, not only do you get a great change into hundreds, but your getting that gut punch in with how high you've changed the money into. I'm a fan of gut punches...lol. And for those who say they are emptying their bank accounts for one trick...DON'T SPEND THE MONEY LOL! It's just a transfer of funds that way, except your not collecting your 2 cent interest per year. The money isn't spent...

I rarely have anyone dissappointed that I didn't turn the bills into 100's. I just change the bills from 1's to 5's... I'm a poor college student, what can I say. I rarely get the question: " can you turn them into 100's"... the question I get most often is... "can you do that with my money?!". If the ask about 100's I just say..."I'm not that good"... it fits me, I can imagine this line not working for everyone. If you have the money... go for 500. Biro was right thoug...it's the change that impresses people. I believe that it's the idea that one can increase money like that, that is more important than the amount it is changed to.

I keep thinking the effect has some logical problems:
1. You can't repeat it without blowing the idea that it's a gimmicked packet. Nobody thinks you have fifteen packets of one dollar bills in your pocket, and you use a different packet each time. I have to admit, that's a lousy element in strolling magic. It's like doing cups and balls in a strolling environment -- sooner or later they discover you don't have a huge box of oranges you've produced all night. 2. You produce $500 every time, exactly. Why specifically that amount? Why not create a circumstance whereby I need $47, and change my five ones into $50? (The old "produce a sandwich is okay, but produce a sandwich for a hungry man is magic" theory). I think, though I carry hundy and use it a lot, that Roger Klaus' book has a better alternative called "Billusion." Check it out, as it both extends the usefulness of the bill switch, and adds extra elements to the trick that make it a more commercial routine. MD |

Quote: I use chinese paper bills that are red and white in color and one million dollar fake bills. This is cheap and all I do is explain how the chinese bills are realy one million dollars each and to prove it I turn them into real green million dollar bills. This plays big ware the color change is hard to believe and on top of that the million dollar bills look so real. The way gas prices are today who can afford the real thing. You can get these chinese bills at most coin shops and the price can be as low as one dollar each. When I was starting out in magic the one thing I learned is that you can take a dollar trick and make it look like a thousand dollar trick and a thousand dollar trick can look like a dollar trick. Its all in the routining and practice in slight of hand. Good luckOn 2006-12-11 04:24, Edsel Chiu wrote:

What do you use to carry your hundy/slowburn/3d whatever gaffs? Just in your wallet? A money clip?

If you are getting good or great reactions, what's the problem? Kaps only changed paper into $1.00 bills and got a great reaction. It's the change. And, IMHO changing pieces of paper cut from a magazine into real money beats changine one denomination to another. |

He shouldn't have changed them back later in the show...it wasn't a good follow up. He also counted the bills out loud too much.

I often hear that there is a difference in handling between the fred kaps method and that of pat page. Is this an issue of naturalness (more natural handling) or more drastic differences. Pointers to where I can find Kaps' method are greatly appreciated (pat page mentions lecture notes...)
