How do you know? I went to the Ripleys site and it just loads the 3 finalists forever but never shows the 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners..

Whew,

I'm glad that's over, lol. My official result is 3rd! I win a trip for 2 to Panama Beach, Florida, $600 spending money, Dinner for 2 at a restaurant out there, VIP passes for the Ripley's Museum, and most importantly, I'll be in the Ripley's Book and Cartoon. Here's what happened:

I received a call on Thursday from Ripley's head office in Florida explaining they wanted to give me a heads up that the winner wasn't to be decided by the online vote alone. They said that the winner was to be decided by the panel and, amongst the panel, I was dead last of the 12.

I explained that I thought that a bit surprising since I had 40% of the vote. They said they'd wait and see.

Fast forward to today where the winners were announced: Carjumper (16% of the online vote) got first, Pogoboy (21% of the online vote) got second, and I (39% of the online vote) got third. When they called me today to tell me I won 3rd place, I replied, "Well, that's a far cry from 12th..." to which they said, 'Thank goodness for the voice of the public...'

That leads me to firmly believe that if it wasn't for all the support I received I wouldn't have gotten anything at all, so I'm happy with 3rd.

Obviously, a huuuuuuuge Thank You goes out to everyone who voted (many of you numerous times) and who took the time to throw me your thoughts, votes, and support. I'm really shocked at the number of people who e-mailed cheering me on. Even celebrities such as Daniel Negreanu, Swollen Members, and Penn and Teller joined the wagon; it was an awesome ride. Thank you everyone for taking me with you.

Your Friend,

Awful. I am truly not happy and I wrote Ripley's to state my disgust.
In loving memory of Hughie Thomasson 1952-2007.

You brought something beautiful to this world, you touched my heart, my soul and my life. You will be greatly missed.

Until we meet again “my old friend”.

That's a crock of crap - even in America, democracy goes out the window. I intend to voice my disappointment to Ripleys over this - you should be first place.

You could always just send me a Smilodon Fatalis instead. Or perhaps everyone here on the Café could contribute $1 and buy me the new Ducati SportClassic...

Jamie, and perhaps you could send all of us multi-voters one of your keepsakes to remind us daily of your true prowess....LOL

You won it hands down... This reminds me of a truly hilarious story...one of my dear friends who laid everything he had on the line ot open a centre for entrepreneurship, had run several successful businesses, etc etc etc, got beat out in an entrepreneur of the year contest by a "nun" who was a professor at a university. Still burns his butt to this day but it is a funny story.

Jamie, you will remain number one here with allthe fans who can appreciate a real talent..

I am glad you placed in the top three, but you should have been first. I think it is silly to pretend they are going to let the public decide, and then turn around and do something else - congrats on your prize/recognition and being enshrined in the book/cartoon - that is the best of all!

What's the point of voting if they just decide themselves?

And moreover, if they didn't like your bottle in the first place, why was it placed in the Top 12?

Congratulations are in order anyway bud! That's an awesome little bottle you've got there.

I agree that Jamie should have been first BUT first place money is in Canadian dollars. Isn't $1000 Canadian actually less than $600 US? LOL

I thin k the most important thing is the cartoon and the book.
If they do a cool little cartoon of Jamie he will be immortal. Although, to the Magic Café Jamie is already immortal!!!

Congratulations,
James

I do think you got a it ripped off...to get so much of the public vote, then have them to do a 360 and tell you they're not using that vote...is unfair.

Still, you got 3rd place! That's great...congratulations. Smile
