I would like to draw the attention of forum members to a levitation video I put up on You Tube.
It's not the video as such that's the comedy element, but the comments people make. They all seem like they are written by twelve year olds, and I have been having a bit of fun posting replies. Click on 'all comments' to get the sequence of my responses in order. If the following link doesn't work or isn't live you can find the page by searching LEVITATION MAGIC ILLUSION on the you tube site. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quYMoiLpCC0 Brian Caswell http://www.unearthlymagic.com |

What are you looking for? Many people copped to the fact that it was an "illusion".
You must have a lot of time on your hands to want to respond to all of them about it LOL. Dosn't sound like fun to me, but go for it.

Dannydoyle - did you click on 'All comments' lower down the page and read them in order? I was simply drawing attention to comedy construction.

Most of the people responding to that video are not saying anything that isn't true. It looked fake, and they were obviously stooges. Maybe I missed something here.

This particular forum is about comedy isn't it? Is my sense of humour so far out that it's actually invisible!

To answer your question, obviously your sense of humor is all in the clothes you wear, and the idiotic videos you produce.

Before this turns into an insult discussion (and henceforth pointless) Biran, it just seems that peoples comments are where you find humor, and at first glance I admit that after watching the full video in all of its dramatic performance, and then saw the first commnent "people can't fly!!" I had a chuckle, but I would just let them be and allow stupidity to come on its own, no need to probe around for it, just look at (insert political leader name here)

I thought the claim was that your responces had some great humor in their construction. That was what escaped me.
Perhaps it is ME. Let's not have this get into an insult contest. Absolutly not. It could very well just be beyond my ability to see. It seemed to me that they kind of busted you on how you did it. Pretty accurate for laymen in some cases. I don't find too much humor in that truthfully.

Sorry everyone. If I had read the title of this forum more carefully I wouldn't have put up the post. It wasn't really appropriate. However, since a number of people have commented, let me at least explain a bit more of the background.
In 2003 I made a documentary about regular working magicians. Deliberately not household names, but all professionals earning their living from magic in one way or another. I set the four participants in conversation, and the subject of the notorious David Blaine levitation arose. A great subject, because the sharp divisions in opinions inevitably provoke lively discussion among magicians. To illustrate this conversation for the film, I decided to create a parody of the Blaine levitation. In order to go 'one better', why not have it out in the middle of a field, rather than close to a building?!! The video sequence is what resulted from this. If you consider it solely as a piece of magic, then I am by no means fully happy with it. It was actually quite a complex thing to do. There are six different methods employed to achieve the different camera shots, and four of those involve inexpensive, but sizeable set ups. And it has to be done on an overcast day!? With more time and a bigger budget the end result would have been better. However it's not bad, and the video has proved interesting enough to become featured video on the entertainment section. To return to the comments. I don't think it's just me who has pronounced on the generally low grade of comment seen on YouTube. Obviously I wasn't taking any comment seriously, and was just taking the p*ss. There probably is an interesting debate as to whether the, mostly monosyllabic, utterances really contain a serious comment on the presentation of magic. (I think they probably do incidentally). However I will confine this post to one in particular from a more articulate correspondent. He started off with - 'Pathetic, don't give up the day job', rails about how much I paid the 'stooges', complained about the obvious jerkiness of the 'hydraulics' and finished up by saying 'I know that's how David Copperfield and all those other t*ssers do it, but I thought it was crap'. As before I just took the p*ss. Secretly I'm thinking well, as a matter of fact, you're not that far off the mark! But a couple other things also struck me as interesting about this. The fact that he spotted what he took to be a standard method seemed to make the thing just slightly more acceptable to him. The tone of the comment was so extreme that it actually seemed to say as much about his level of anger as it did about the video. If anyone wants to comment further on this. Maybe there is a more appropriate forum to switch to? Thanks for the previous contributions above. They have given me pause for thought. Brian Caswell http://www.unearthlymagic.com |

I actually DID find your banter with the idiot adolescents to be kind of humorous. The funniest part is that they were completely oblivious to the fact that they were being made fun of!
P.S. What IS the background music? Is that from an opera or just an operatic sounding soundtrack from a film? Or perhaps it was an original soundtrack for this film?
