Hello from Israel!

Until my university decides to kick me out for fooling too many physicists and mathematicians, I seem to be a PhD student in Computer Science (spec. Artificial Intelligence). After discovering that PhD stands for "Patiently hoping for a Degree", I find myself spending more and more time on magic (almost entirely on menatlism).

As a teenager I became quite a good amateur magician, but for some reason that I don't remember right now, that interest gradually faded away. That is, until last year, when watching Derren Brown's series brought back all that curiosity and enthusiasm, and here I find myself with the number of mentalism books in my bookshelf far exceeding those of computer science (and I am supposed to be a computer scientist, duh...).

During the past year I went through an intense and gruesome mentalism field training, reading everything I could find written by Corinda, Banachek, Annemann, Knepper, Becker, Osterlind, Jermay, Busch, Rowland, and others. I frequently ask myself why I am spending all this time when I have no plans of becoming a professional in the foreseeable future. The answer seems to be that I get a kick out of fooling the scientists at the university Smile

Enough rambling, if for any weird reason you would like to learn more about me, take a look at my website: http://www.tabibi.org

Best,

Omid (last time I checked I was 24 years old)

P.S. Copy/pasted the text into gmail for spell checking. It keeps on telling me that my only misspelled word is "mentalism", insisting that the word does not exist. Another poor fellow living in a state of denial...

The reason for the problem is because the a & t are transposed. You have it spelled menaltism, not mentalism. Just thought you might want to know. At any rate, welcome to the Café.

As for your professors, even they like to be challenged or entertained. Magic and mentalism can do both.

Looking back at what I wrote, I have spelled it both correctly and incorrectly, writing "mentalism" in one place and "menaltism" in another. Gmail marks both of them as misspelled.

The only problem is - as James Randi mentioned in a lecture a few years ago - that as soon as one receives a PhD some areas of the brain in charge of saying "I don't know" and "I was wrong" get paralyzed. The other day I used Banachek's method of changing time on a physicist's watch. His explanation? "You warmed it!" Not sure the physics laws of which universe allow the changing of time by means of applying heat Smile
