After a show last week a little old lady walked up and asked, "You don't put that fire in your mouth do you?" Okay, it was more of a statement.

I said "of course I did. Didn't you see me light the other torch on fire with my mouth, or when I ate two torches at once?"

With out even acknowledging what I said she remarked "you didn't put that fire in your mouth" and walked away.

Easier for her to believe that I guess?

Some have idiocy thrust upon them.

I really love it when I do card to wallet with a force and someone goes "I saw you put it in your pocket."

Doing the floating-matchstick-over-card (IT) someone decided to tell those present that it had "something to do with the way he bends the card." While he was explainig this, I had switched the gimmick for a normal card. He finished blabbering, and proceeded to grab the matchstick and card from my hands. He spent the next five minutes trying to figure out how to "bend the card right."

A friend of mine was doing a show for a group I am a member. At the end of the evening, one of the member's wives came up to me and said she knew how he did the book trick (book test). She said it was simple he just memorized the first word of every page of the book. I laughed all the way home.

I've had someone think that also!

One really weird one was just the other day. I did a pulse manipulation, making my pulse speed up then slow down and stop. The thing is I did this to a nurse, and she said

"You must be using magnets to do that."

I asked her how could magnets possibly affect my pulse and she said,

"The iron in your blood."

Do you think that could work? Smile

Ok. This one is just plain scary! Smile

When I performed the colour changing knives to someone, they thought that I was pressing a switch to change the colour!!! If only magic was that advanced...!

After performing Martin Lewis's Technicolor Predition one person came up to me after the show and said that each envolope had the correct answer already in it.

I then asked the person that if that was correct then how come each person only found the "You will select the (color named)" note and not the Final Note which states what the man would select or what the woman would select?

The answer was "IT DISSOLVES" and walked away.
Be remembered for performing what looks like MAGIC, not skill.

After identifying two different cards indifferent ways, one man said "You forced me to take that card" - and I thought that that I had been so fair!
Infact I had not forced him to take it, but it was a stacked deck, hence I knew which card he had taken - how could I do the trick if I didn't?

I have just remembered another brilliant thing that also was funny. I did a 'Oil and Water' card effect, quite a good one really, and I know the patter about the different inks is bad but I used it, and this one person actually genuinly believed me. He was convinced it really was the inks acting and sliding off each card. He even attempted a very serious discussion on the inks and how quickly they do swap and change. Yet another poor person.

'Temperature-sensitive props' seems are a common explaination for Kamillion Koins, Color-changing knifes, hot rods, and even color changes with playing cards! I like watching folks hold their fingers over the spots on Porper's "Red-White-Blue" paddle just like the magician did. When the colors don't change, they often say 'Oh, yea, I've got to cool this off before it will work again.'

All this makes you wonder what world some people live in!

Sometimes the supposed "explanation" is better than the trick itself.

The other day a stage manager on our ship told me that it was so easy to figure out my "Hospitality" routine.

I said "Really?"

She said "yes, the drinks are coming out of your tie."

Another time a person told me the glasses were already full and I was just holding them in a way to hide the fluid.

Once people make up their mind how something is done they think they are right. I wonder why they can't just enjoy the entertainment value and not have to come up with a method?

Ahh yes, and that is the rub..always has been. They don't really want to believe in the impossible, (what their lillipution mind's can't comprehend) so our struggle, as magicians, is to help them experience, to coax or escort them into, (if you will), Paul Harris's fleeting moment of astonishment.

Amen.

My wedding ring gets blamed for almost everything from spongeball transpositions to Fearson's Floating cigarette (performed with a kazoo).

One that bothers me is during a transposition of coins from the left hand to the right, they will often say that I tossed them "quickly" from one hand to the other, even though I have taken great pains to set it up to show that is indeed not possible.

Trap doors in my cups is my favourite, then you do a wand through 3 cups gag and they say "See! I told you!" "Its rub off paint." is another one.
