A lot of you are using an iPod with a RF remote like Airclick or iJet. You are probably using the silent track to simulate some of the features of the more expensive show control products. The only one that can't be accomplished so far with the less expensive solutions is the fade on pause or fade out when advancing to the next track. I thought if enough people brought it to Apple's attention, then maybe they would support these features in a future update. After all, iTunes supports these features so why not? For those who want to try, then go to the following link and see if they listen.

Micheal, "fade on pause" is a feature of the Core Audio package within OSX.
Without Core Audio to do the work, advanced audio features like "fade on pause" aren't available. The likelyhood of the full Core Audio package showing up on an iPod one day actually isn't that far fetched, but would only come with a major hardware change to the iPod itself. |

Actually there is a program called Rockbox which you can install on an iPod and it has crossfade features. So it is possible. No hardware change needed. The only problem with Rockbox is that it doesn't work with remotes.

Micheal Leath is correct, I mentioned Rockbox a while ago. I been keeping an eye out on its development, it does cross fade natively but no remote support.
I also messed around with IPOD Linux. G0THIKE |

I was making reference to a full Core Audio iPod needing a hardware upgrade, which it would.
I didn't say that a third party application couldn't offer similar functionality to SOME things Core Audio can do, but third party add ons aren't the same as Core Audio, which is actually part of the operating system. It really doesn't matter though, it's whatever works best for you. For me, Rockbox is a work in progress and I wouldn't put it into a show situation. |
