Would someone recommend a ring/string penetration routine and method for close up performance?

I recommend Jay Scott Berry's "Symphony on the Ring & Ribbon".

I like "A Charming Chinese Challenge." You are suppose to use Chinese coins and a ribbon. It is great how the cions seem to penetrate the ribbon.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but I know of a trick where you tie a piece of string in a loop, and then you put one end of the loop through a ring, and then you put then you put the string on a person's thumbs with the ring suspended in the middle (sorry, I know it sounds complicated but it's hard to describe without a picture) then by moving the string around the ring will slide right off. If that's what your interested in, you can find it in the magic for dummies book.

Get Dan Garret's "Close Up Connivery". Has ring and string plus Pindemonium on it. Others are Ray Grismer's Ring and Rope, or Dan Fleshman.

One of the best all around routines is Bob Miller'S Relentless Ring and String video. On his routine Bob uses a shoelace but a string can also be used and it's a great walk around effect as well.

Thank you everyone for this. I now understand why I could not find what I was looking for amongst my books.

There is a Stewart James effect in the Harry Lorayne book, "The Magic Book". Two spectators hold each end of a shoelace (or string). The center of the string is covered with a handkerchief and a ring is placed under cover of the handkerchief by the performer for a moment. When the string is pulled from under the cover the ring is seen to be tied to the string. The ends of the string are pulled, undoing the knot and the ring is now seen to be on the string. It's possible to do this in the hands, but on a table is easier.

For a finger ring and string or shoelace try Bob Miller's Relentless Ring and String Video or Greg Wilson's Ring Leader Video.
For a 3 inch ring Aldo Colombini has some great moves using a ring and rope in his video series. Also Eric DeCamps video has a great sequence with a 3 inch ring and cord. |

Dan Fleshman has a nice Ring and String Routine on one of his early close-up tapes.
It is a straightforward routine that is very clean and magical. |

Eric DeCamps has a killer muti-phase routine that includes several great penetrations and also the ring tossed and knotted onto the rope!
It's on his video from A-1--plus a killer card to wallet routine! Gene B

Don't forget the Mark Leveridge routine. It has an original move that I use. I believe that it's on one of his tapes. I learned it from him and bought the printed routine, which may be out-of-print now.
Dan Garrett's routine is awesome, too! |
