I don't know if this post belongs here or not (flog me if I deserve it) but I thought I'd broadcast this new for any magicians in Maine. Previously there was no magic shop in Maine, but this has changed!

The magic shop is located on 8 Green St. in Augusta and is run by a fellow by the name of Magic Mark. He's a wonderful guy. I just came back from my first visit today and was really impressed. I understand why so many folks here talk about supporting your local magic shop. I'll happily pay a couple extra bucks for a trick to be able to talk with someone about magic, the trick and get some advice about performing it. My friend and I spent well over an hour there and Mark was very generous with his advice and demonstrations. If you're in the area check it out, the shop number is (207)629-9300.

Here's to you, Maine Magicians!

Happy Holidays,

Kevin

Congratulations! It's always nice having a good magic shop in your town.

I only wished we had one in our town. Maybe one of these days.

Kevin,

There are no magic shops where I live now, so I can understand your excitement.

I used to live in Paris, France and one of my greatest pastimes (obsessions) was visiting the various magic "boutiques" (as they are called) and talking shop with the fellow magi.

Enjoy but spend wisely!

Saludos,

José.

Wow, Kevin...that's great!

Augusta was the first city I ever lived in, in Maine. Way back in 1971. They have never had a magic shop to my knowledge. Wonderful news about Magic Mark!

There used to be an elderly fellow that lived in Old Town (Rte 2) that had a small magic shop in his home. When he retired from it, I bought most of his inventory. I can't think of his name, right now, but he had a chunk missing out of one of his ears. His wife was a sweetheart. So gracious.

I miss those old days... Smile

Kevin,
I just moved up here to Maine (live in Norway and work in Lewiston) so that is good news. Any magic groups in the area?

Paul...I think there is (was) an SAM club in Rumford. That, however, was quite a few years ago.

You know...if it's no longer active, maybe someone could START an S.A.M. or I.B.M. in your area!

Best,

Doug (A former Mainer)

There is the S.A.M Assembly 174 in Portland: http://www.sam174.homestead.com/

There is also ring 362 of the IBM in Bangor: http://www.ibmring362.org/index.html

Also, you may be interested in knowing that another magic shop is opening up called "Labbe's House of Magic" (see: http://www.labbesmagic.com) which is located in Westbrook.

It's nice to hear that Maine now has a magic shop, though I can't say I'm sorry I'll never be back in Maine to patronize it. I didn't have a very good time- the 3 1/2 years I suffered living in Portland...

Wow as a life long mainer who's moved away and back and even lived life on the road with the greatest show on earth, I'm impressed that there's finally a brick and mortar shop that we can go to as opposed to mail order from everyone's favorite rich uncle hank! Rock on Maine!!!!!!

We used to have a shop here in Eugene, Oregon up until about a month ago, And because of slow sales he had to close up.

David - I was trying to call that shop at about the same time you were. I don't live too far from Augusta, so I stopped by, and there is some other store there now.

I found out it closed last year, and the owner moved to S. Dakota.

I was referred to the shop in Westbrook, Labbe's House of Magic" (see: http://www.labbesmagic.com ) Its located just outside Portland.

It is still in operation.

BTW, While living in Massachusetts, I lived only 10 minutes from Six Flags, and saw your show there quite a few times. Too bad to see the show there end. Great job with the show though!

Dr. Delusion - Isn't Chazpro Magic based out of Eugene, OR.? I used to buy mail order from them years ago. They should still be there.

BRodgers,

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, I was only in ME till Monday the 16th so I didn''t get a chance to stop at the shop in Portland. I'll have to check it out next time I am in the area.

Thank you for the kind words on our show at Six Flags! I am still touring the 'IllusionQuest' show and it plays at theaters, casinos, fairs and festivals. After 16 seasons at the park it was a nice change for the summer time. We've been signed for FrightFest though, so our show will be there for the month of October.

Sincerely,
David

BRodgers have you ever been to the Indian Orchard, MA store? Its called brick and mortar magic shop. They're closing at the end of August. Its right down the end of my street. I wish magic shops would stay open. There starting to become a thing of the past. We had 3 other ones in the area in the last 20yrs. The land of oz in West Springfield, a bike shop that sold magic in Feeding Hills. And one in Chicopee in the early 1990s. There all gone. There all gone including brick and mortar. They were open for about 2 years. The owners were very nice. Oh well. Back to ordering on line I guess
