I am now practicing a relatively simple salt routine. Salt vanishes into the ether, and with much effort, I bring it back and pour it out of my strained fist into the other hand.

I'm a bartender on the weekend and I love the reaction I get when I vanish someone's cigarette in my hand.

Talking of Salt and Bars, I work in a Bar and am absolutely dying for someone to order a Tequila and ask for salt so I can magically produce it for them, but I've been waiting about 4 months now and I've started not to go to work rigged for it. Not that kinda bar I guess. As for my favourite routine? Appear red silk, red silk to yellow silk, yellow silk vanish to where ever, usually the brim of my hat. Well, it is winter.

Ok I guess I'm the only one that still does the silk from nowhere routine with a TT! True story, kids love it and some adults are still amazed by it.

Todd Lamanske has a great 2 silk routine on his video "Get Real" Volume 1, called "Nothing Up my Sleeve". http://www.magictodd.com
I saw him work a crowd of laypeople at The Workshop, and he really killed. Very impressive and funny stuff.

The best use ever has to be a vanishing cigarette. It's lit for heaven's sake.
There are many offbeat ways to use a TT. My personal favorites are the Mr Sweettooth routine by Michael Kasminasas(sp) and a few variations on the torn and restored sugar packet (a favorite of mine at restaurants). Also David Williamson has a beautiful salt routine for walkaround on one of his tapes called Saline Solution. Joe |

How about this,
Partner up with another magician and "pass" items from one person to another. Of course this does require 2 silks that are the same colour. I find the effect is lost if a green silk is produced as a purple silk by the magic-geek down the table in a restaurant. I've tried this with a friend of mine (including the wrong colour silk, I forgot what colour I had loaded). Vanishing salt works well because you can give an "explanation" of how the salt is hidden by dumping it into the hand of the other magician. |
