Hay everyone RJ here; I was discussing my plans for a new close up/trade show case in another thread. We were talking about the mini briefcase for a deck of cards. If you want to get caught up you can check it out here:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......2&23 I have a close relative that started Zero Manufacturing, Inc back in the 50’s and all of his family, my cousins are still running and working for Zero Corporation, Now called Zero Halliburton the makers and owners of the aluminum Halliburton luggage and specialty cases. You know the ones all the bad guys carry in the movies filled with drugs or money….LOL!!! Anyway I hinted about my plans in the thread to market a routine using the mini cases. But I also mentioned that I was planning on marketing a Close Up/Trade-Show case for the “True” working pro. What I would like to know form all the working pros and advanced members here, is what you would like to have or see made in a case, I am talking about all the buzzers, bells and whistles we use. The Halliburton case I am planning will have removable top and side supports that will hold the top either on and offset or in line with the base. I am thinking the offset would be more popular. If there is a way to keep this an option, you bet I will. Some of the other features are: the ability to attach eureka style or other base so it can be free standing. If I can come up with or if anyone has and idea to keep it all self contained this would be a huge A+++, But I don’t think this is an issue, If you can carry your entire routine in the case and have a separate bag for the base, It should not be a problem. I will also planed to have at lease 3-4 ITR’s either manual or electronic, with pin holes that will have some type of small grommet to keep the IT from binding or breaking. Why 3-4 reels? Well just in-case (No PUN) and wouldn’t be nice to be on any side of the table while working IT. The servants would be held in place with magnets so they could be moved to your liking and easily moved out of the way or set up quickly when needed. Another key feature would be to have a fold out surface that is larger than the top of the case so you would not be limited to the size of the actual case lid. The working surface would fold up and store inside for transportation. The fold out surface will also be covered with a type of padded material that will not show any creases when set up and is suitable for working on with or without the addition of a close-up pad. I also realize that the outside of the Halliburton case is not flat, this has been solved with a custom tray the also will lend itself for the use of “wells” which will be a feature of the fold out surface. If you don’t know what I am talking about then this case is not for you. If you want to know what I am talking about pick up a copy of the Stein and Day Handbook or the Mark Wilson Course in Magic and do a little research. My hopes are to keep the entire thing self contained and compact. One of the problems I am running into is being able to design a base that will be able to fit inside while traveling, and still be able to carry all your “tricks of the trade”. And the other problem is making the base sturdy enough to hold up. I have a few designs in mind but they will drive the cost of the whole thing pretty high. And like I said before I don’t see a huge issue if you just have carry 2 objects. I thought about making a soft “Saddle Type” addition that would go over the case when closed. This would also create more storage space and could also act as a way to protect the aluminum surfaces of the actual case. But then again it starts to take away from the compatibility I am going for…everyone following me so far? I am open to all input and ideas and would like to know what you think. If you have an idea but don’t want it to be made public please feel free to PM me. I will keep it in strict confidence and if it is a feature that is “Doable” we will include it and give you full credit. But please keep in mind that cost and feasibility is an issue. I am looking for input for features that can be used in more than just one way, utility items or items that can be adapted to fit various styles and performance needs. Some of theses ideas or extra features I have collected and thought about include: A card fountain, Or a single card ejector for playing cards or business cards with remote control, a PK control device built in either manual or electronic. Maybe even a trap that can be used for a vanish, production or change of a small object via remote control and using spring or leaver design, keeping the amount of electronic gadgetry to a limit, or maybe going all the way. I think the spring type could be reset quicker and more easy for another effect, but then again it’s only a thought, I have not put the X’s and O’s (Football Lingo) down on paper. I think it’s time to maybe give this a shot and see what WE can come up with. And I say “WE” because I would really like your input and ideas. And like I said if you have something you want to keep confidential I will do that, just drop me a PM and you will have your idea on the record and it will be safe. I have had many, many magic ideas and effects ripped off and put on the market. One of the reasons I left the biz in 99/00. And now after almost 7 years away I am making my come back. I just want to help and make friends in the art that has been my life for 30+ years. I have one love and one goal…Magic and doing what ever I can to Advance the art and keep it Pure… This is the case I use now and would like to use for this project. http://www.zerohalliburton.com/business/......5-BK.jsp 13 x 18 x 5.3 this is the thickest I can get in the business case. But I have color options Black, Gold, Silver and soon should be available in Red and all colors are anodized. If we think thicker would be better than the next size would be: http://www.zerohalliburton.com/pursuits/......106C.jsp 17 x 21 x 7.5 I can get Silver and Black (black powder coated not anodized) on this one. I think 7.5” think is about the thickest I would want. The next size up is 9.5” thick and I think that’s getting away from my goal of compact design. BUT, we maybe able to get the table base in this one, I have to do some R&D. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE MSRP...my goal is to keep this item below 500.00 all said and done Thanks for your time and consideration I look forward to your ideas and if we can get it going I may call it the Café’ Attaché and give credit where credit is due… Happy New Year….Later & Out RJ |
