http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PdGw49ek9w I guess this is not a normal single piece of newspaper. Any idea for a source of information about this? |

Yes it is one sheet of paper. Gene Andersen might have it in his book.

Could that be a variation on the old Afghan Bands? The secret prep would be made inside the folds of the sheet of paper within the "Drawn some lines and score marks..."

I've not seen that in Newpaper Magic - or I'd have used it!
Clever, but difficult to show effectively. Don. I can see where your thinking comes from re Afghan Bands. Possibly. In fact, I'm inclined to think you'll find the solution in one of those 19th centuary family puzzle, games and parlour books. I have a feeling it is just the way you fold and cut. I don't see a switch. And I don't see it in the video being faked like a torn message. But I do see a FOLDED paper which may conceal an inner folded section. Cut together it may come simply out and the thing is genuine - as of course is the Afghan band principle. So Don, you may be right.

If I'm not much mistaken that is Ian Rowland. I would therefore think that this would be his own creation and so not available from another source ie Mr Anderson.
If you can locate his site he spends a lot of his tiime chopping up playing cards to make clever little links in un-glued cards, I presume he followed this interest by creating this effect although I'm not sure the no glue rule can still be in effect. If you could follow the afghan band principle with square loops you couldn't have them both flat and one square would be larger than the other. It's a topologist's nightmare. George |

Yes that is Ian and you are correct, he likely has not released it.

I lost the sound somehow, no big deal though, it was mostly me talking to the cat.
