I was wondering if the Lassen CSB coins are worth the extra money. I love his work and my Johnson gaff is somewhat detectable in good light. So you have to kind of keep it moving. Is the Lassen or Schoolcraft gaffed coin undetectable? I rather like the idea of using more exotic coins too.

Thanks for any input.

The "bogus" explanation showing the exta coins works wonderful. It leads them down the garden path. And then....you get them.

It is NOT like in the cups and balls where performers ( even Vernon ) would tip a sleight in explaning the trick ( I'm absolutely against tipping any sleight ).

Purses, I think, work quite well. Who carries purses these days? Who carries foreign coins, wands, sponge balls, ect. ??? What they get carried in is of little significance to the audience.Carry them in a goats head if you want.

Doc Eason has a killer routine. Paul Green and Cody Fisher also have fantastic routines.

The coins get shown in the begining. Doc is right, after the routine if they want to see the coins, you did something wrong.

I make the point in my lectures that if they want to see the coins after you are finished, then you are doing the trick wrong... you are emphasizing the coins where you should be emphasizing interaction between you nad the specs...

Kevin, are you in the LA area? I am doing a lecture at the castle on Sunday Aug 5th.. this coming sunday.. come if you can...

Doc

Hi Doc,

Actually, nobody has ever asked, but I like to think that all my bases are covered. Also in this effect it is easy to overthink the problem as a magician when we need to keep in mind what the spectator is experiencing. That's all that really matters.

Actually, although I have retained my Magic Castle membership, I now live in the SF Bay area (near Santa Cruz). Would have loved to see your lecture. Boy do I miss the days of going to the Castle a few times per week...

Thirty something years ago, I was a youngster that hung out in the Denny & Lee Magic Studio was more than my new bride would have liked.
One of the many tricks I bought there was the Johnson CSB. I put away my magic for many years while I did a variety of other things and am now at a point where I'm pulling it out again.
When I bought this set, Denny showed me an alternative routine but 30 something years later I can't remember it other than that I liked it better than the printed instructions that came with the set.

Does anyone here by any chance know what routine he used? Was it one of the ones mentioned here or one of his own making?
Thanks,
David Bard

Speaking of the CSB. I am in the middle of doing my own set by using the following coins:

5 Francs (Voltaire)
Mexican 20 Centavos
East African 10 cents

I just need to finish the C/S coin. All will fit perfectly together. This will be more like '2 Copper, 1 Silver' or 'Bronze, Copper, Silver' set.

Nice.
Kind of like the Copper, Brass, Copper set I got from Ronald Davies with Copeland's Tiger Tan and Kingdom coins.

Ronald Davis does exceptional work on CSB's. On my UK coin version the gimmick can be shown either side.
