This guy isn't the first to do this. Drawing a perfect circle freehand is considered, in some circles (no pun intended), the height of the artist's craft. Just do a google search for "drawing a perfect circle". Here is the pertinent link:

This is supposedly how Michelangelo "auditioned" for the job to paint the Sistine Chapel. I heard the story as a kid (I have fine art majors in my family). Simple elegance.
A thread elsewhere on The Café is discussing favorite classic effects. I mentioned anything with a sphere; a sphere being essentially a massive grouping of perfect circles, all with a common center. I consider it to be an aesthetically perfect shape. That partially stems from the Michelangelo story. ~michael

Man, I have TRIED to draw a perfect circle before...and it looked HORRID!! This man has earned my respect!
