My family and I went to see the movie, "Night At The Museum". It is a very funny movie. In the middle of the movie the Night Watchman does a couple of magic trick. He makes a silk vanish from hand using a TT, but a little of the silk is still showing. So now, everytime a magician makes a silk vanish from his hand, the kids will say its a TT. What does everyone think?

I'd say they probably didn't notice, not knowing where to look, they aren't magicians.
"Now here's the man with the 25 cent hands, that two bit magician..."

I have had people before say that I'm using a TT, but by the time they look for it I already have ditched it with little misdirection.
If you don't want to ditch it then get yourself the Vernet set of finger T’s. I use every single one for different situations. Best, Jeff

Hi Jerry,
My wife was at this show last night. She said not only did they make it obvious, but you could hear the kids in the theatre talking about it. Wasn't there myself, so I can't say exactly. Hopefully, it will blow over in a year or two. I think it was Penn and Teller gave everyone in their audience a TT and silk to perform the trick on cue. Hard to remember now. Not that I agree with it (exposure), but there always seems to be a thirst for it. Thankfully, the majority of the regular folks often also seem to have short memories when it comes to this sort of thing. All the best, Rob |

Photius,
No. The warriors or Huns (characters in movie) saw the mistake and get mad at the night watchman and chase him off. Jeff, I know kids can see the TT on ebay, but it does not show what it looks like on the hand.

Yeah. They'll forget. I have family member who acually bought a TT a couple months ago and forgot about it. I still fool him with it! So I wouldn't stress over it, just because 20 lay-people saw a TT. There still 8 million who don't have the slightest clue what a TT is.

Jimeuax,
This is where we separate the hobbyists from the pros. The pro will be able to perform the effect using multiple methods to kill off the "known" possibility as the method used. Life is good! Equifinality gives options. Disproving that the method was used becomes a trick in itself to those who assumed they know. Learn magic! It's well beyond tricks. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

That movie was still #5 at the box office this past weekend. I haven't seen it but apparently a lot of folks are still buying tickets.

Hi all!
I saw this thread..then I brought my TT and 9" red silk with me to the radio station. I'm the night-time jock (7-12 mid), and am 1 of 2 people (in our 4 radio stations in this bldg) broadcasting "live". The young lady down the hall, works the same shift as I (different format though), and LOVES to see anything to do with magic. I made the silk vansih and reappear three times. She was TOTALLY fooled. This girl gets out a LOT and does the club scene (she disc-spins part-time), so you'd think she's seen it all. Again, She was TOTALLY fooled, and so was her producer. I guess not everyone has seen Penn & Teller or "Night At The Museum". :) Doug |

Doug,
In the grand scheme of life, most folks will die and never know who they were or that they ever had a TT. Enjoy! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander P.S. --- You know that we import 12 other colors of 9" silks besides red? I even have a few red/yellow/blue diagonal stripes in 9". (Yes! about 1/3 of all the silk we import is RED!) |

I agree with everyone, but TT's have been exposed for a long time.
I learned to hate TT's and here is why... When I worked at a magic shop I got these customers all the time... Some redneck (Texas) would come in and ask in a total redneck talk... "Yah got those fake thumbs that you stick that rag in?" Some other redneck drunk shows him in a bar and now he wants to do it. He won’t listen on the size, he complains about the color, and you just know he's going to go do the trick the worst way possible....And expose it even more. This is why I never do this trick. It just makes me think of these idiots. Randi |

HEHE... Glad I could help your day.
Unfortunately it's a true story. It happened all the time. And yes, they always called it a rag. Randi |
