I'm compiling a list of classic Parlor Magic for a project and was interested in seeing how many we can list without naming specific makers, etc.
In your own opinion, what would you consider to be "stereotypical" classic livingroom or parlor magic? Here's What I can think of thus far: *ABC Blocks *Stratosphere *DieBox *Square Circle *Card Frame *Card to Balloon *Needle Through Balloon *Silk Cabinet (Silk Cabby) *Nest of Boxes *Arm Chopper *Dove Pan *Where Do The Ducks Go? *Card Duck *Snake Basket *Orange Box *Orange, Checkers, and Rice Vase *Change Bag *Confusing Crayons *Hippy Hop Rabbits *Fraidy Cat *Deans Box *Dove Tray *Mini-Lions Bride *Wringer Box *Take-Apart/Tear-Apart Vanish *Doves to Rabbit *Multiplying Bottles *Passe Passe Bottles *Crystal Silk Cylinder *Blendo Silk *Linking Rings |

Do not come into my living room and perform "Where do the ducks go." I think you need a stage or a barnyard for that. "Where do the DOVES go?" might be more appropriate. I just don't like stepping in duck doo on my carpet.

Yoiks!!!
A complete list would require another storage drive when we get beyond common availabilities...... When you start putting in silk magic, mini-illusions, and box props on a list a second drive could be needed. Blendos Phantom Tube Geni Tube Demon Box Diminishing Silks Self Tying Silks/Untying Silk/Milk to lightbulb 20th Century Silks The Ever popular Silks to Bra or Shorts Silks to Flowers Story Silks Linking Coathangers Chinese Flame Clock Various Drawer Routines Rice Bowls Lota Bowls Wiz-Kote Sword thru Neck Nest of Boxes Death Trap Losander Table FloatingGlasses Card Sword Bill in Lemon Etc. Etc. Sorry for any duplicates -- I cannot seem to have the original list in front of me as I make mine....

Dancing Cane
Levitation Dark Museum Precious Metal Book Test These are a few more worth noting (I don't think they were mentioned yet). There are many others but what's been posted so far is a pretty good list. What you got to do is put together a "performance" that will suit your audience. Whether a younger group or a little older group, more sophisticated bunch or a group that migiht be more interested in highly visual. These are considerations to consider when choosing effects along with putting them together and creating your show. Good luck and let us know what you plan to do if you are indeed working on creating a living room type of program. GlenD

Since receiving Dean's Triangle this week, I can't imagine doing a parlor show anymore without Dean's Box (already mentioned by Bryan), and now his Triangle. You may well have to go out and get a second job to afford his masterpieces, but it'd be worth it.
