After sending out postcards (promoting your show) to companies, organizations, and schools you have never worked with before nor sent them anything...when is the right time to give a follow up call? Also, what should be discussed in this call?

(a summerized script would be highly appreciative)

Thank You,

I've found the best time to call is a couple weeks after the first mailing. But you will most likely run into a "gate keeper" which can be a pain sometimes. But you'll eventually get past them. Unless you start directing your mail to the one who makes the decisions. You can do this by simply calling the business or school and asking.

Most businesses want the mail to go to the right person. They also don't want inappropriate mail. A good job of target marketing can make this very productive. Always address to an individual if you can. It's worth a phone call before mailing to find out who that is.

As an old marketing prof, there is another signal to identify. If a company only gives first names, usually the personnel turnover is so high until you are wasting your time or they are avoiding someone somewhere. That is usually creditors or plenty of dissatisfied customers. I suggest that you avoid them everyway you can. That includes being a customer. You certainly don't want to work for or be identified with them. Cell phone companies, home improvement companies and some private schools are frequent examples. Your time and reputation is valuable too.
