I'm pleased to announce a new arrival to our magical family: Blizzard the Dwarf Hotot Bunny, born Nov. 10th 2006 and adopted by us Jan 21 2007. He is a beautiful pure white rabbit with brown eyes and brown outline of fur around the eyes like eyeliner. As Ken Scott says about his Hotot: "She uses Mary Kay make-up!".
Blizzard weighs in at just 2 lbs. but should only grow to 3 lbs.. My longtime freind Merlin the Magic Rabbit will soon be retiring now that he has reached 8.5 lbs. and has put in many years of faithful service. My business partner might adopt Merlin to keep her in the family. I am looking forward to shopping for a new rabbit production or 2 and not always performing my Chalet Doves to Rabbit with all the doves. I'm lookin for a small enough prop to fit in my Lefler case as well as one small enough not to overshadow such a small rabbit. Many have recommended a hat steal, but I'm still looking for advice on where to purchase the load bag and a routine description/ DVD. I love the Wolf's Fun House but alas it will not fit in the case. Until I'm ready to carry another road case or I get Chance to design a smaller one, I'll have to wait. I'll talk more in other posts about sugested props. Thanks in advance for your well wishes for Blizzard and I!

You speak of a bunny retirement. I have owned and cared for a bunny who is now rather aged (last used in a performance two years ago)and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with when it is a good idea to swap out for younger stock. My worst fear would be to perform doves to bunny only to find him past his expiration date.
Any ideas/suggestions/experiences? |

My new bunny "Blizzard" is such a delight.
He's gotten a little bigger in the 2 weeks I've had him. He has a very friendly and curious personality. He likes to be put down on the floor to go exploring. I've put the cage on the kitchen floor and leave the door open. When I'm around he goes out for his adventures and will hopefully go back to the cage for the "facilities". When I'm out or at night, I put one of my cases across the doorway and confine him to the kitchen. He likes that as well. He spends many hours sitting beside me on the couch watchng TV. He has a favorite pillow he likes to sit on. I am still using my other rabbit in all the shows though. I've had him for 4 or 5 years now so it's almost time for him to retire. Most rabbits only live 6 - 8 years, although I'm sure some might live longer. I was thinking it was time to train a new one. I still get many comments about my old rabbit's red eyes, as he's an albino. They even suggest he might be evil! I'll have no such problems with the new one and his brown eyes. I love the little black stripes around his eyes like eyeliner. Blizzard is also small enough that I'm going to try to develop a hat production routine. I'm going to go and buy some heavy fabric today and pick up some rings for the corners. I'll get the square hemed up and have the rings sewn into the corners, then jusy gather the corner rings to form a bag. I'll have to figure out how to install a hook behind my case to hang him on. He's such a quiet rabbit that I'm sure he won't mind hanging there, as he does like to sit still for hours. Training him young will help, too. I was able to buy a beautiful new top hat on Friday. I found a local old-fashioned hat shop. I got a nice large 100% wool felt hat that is 6" from the brim to the crown. Nice tall hat that looks great too. It was a little pricey at almost $150 with tax, but it's an investment in what I hope will be a great finale routine. Now I have to figure out a routine: I'd like to produce some silks and then steal the load bag into the hat and from the folds of the silks produce the rabbit now sitting in the hat. Some on-line magicians even talked about having the hat in the Birthday child's hand when the rabbit appeared. I'll look into that. I will try to take a picture and load it onto the computer. Then all can take a look. Thanks for all your interest and well wishes!
