I've gotten interested in producing my new 2 lb Dwarf Hotot rabbit from a top hat now that I've read all the posts and it comes so highly recommended. Does anyone know where I can buy a load bag or should I get it custom made? Are there any Dvd’s that outline the handling and routines?

Chris,

Mine is real scientific. It is a small plastic Trick or Treat bucket! No one ever sees it and the flat bottom makes it easier to use.

Scheme!

Chris.
You really don't need a special bag.
Just have a dressmaker make a bag the size of those the Esso gas station use to give away some years ago. Those are the ones I use.

Hi Rick, It's great to see you too are a member of the Café.
I was going to get a flat square of fabric hemmed around the edges, with rings attached to the four corners. Where the rings are located helps form a bag that the rabbit hangs in. When it is time to steal the load bag into the hat the bag stolen from behind silks and introduced into the hat for the big production.

Chris,
Abbotts make a great rabbit bag. Comes in 3 sizes and made very well. I think mine was $60.00 7-8 years ago.

Mr. Dennis,

I'll look into Abbott’s for a load bag.
I might just have my seamstress hem up a square piece of heavy fabric and sew 4 rings to the corner. I can hang the load in or behind my case and steal it after other productions from the hat. Would that be any different from the Abbott’s one?

The next challenge is to get a really nice top hat that's large enough, sturdy and impressive looking. I don't think my collapsible top hat will do the routine justice. I was hired last week for a photo shoot with my rabbit and they had rented a beautiful off white hat that looked like is formed of resin then covered with a plush finish. Nice satin band around it too. It will probably cost upwards of $80 or more based on my research from Malabar's Costumes.

I also considered buying and ordering a matching top hat from Tilford:

I like the fire from the hat, although I'm not sure if it's OK for a kids show. Some magicians say it's OK to use a few seconds of fire as long as it’s produced magically, not from lighting a match or lighter that might encourage the kids to do the same. The load is presumably loaded below the fire flap so it is all self contained.

Perhaps I should produce a dove from the fire hat, and ask if they can sell me an ungimmicked duplicate hat to be brought out later to do the rabbit steal with? Tilford's site says they only have 1 left, so they might not be able to get a duplicate for me. Not sure if I should buy it anyway as I like the effect. Any thoughts?
