I have 3 different sizes of cups and chop cups. I tend to think of the larger cups as being more for stage/parlor performances, and the smaller cups for strolling or one-on-one performances. Based on this, do you develop unique routines for each size or do you adapt a primary routine to each circumstance and size of cup?

I have a completely different routine for my mini chop cup than for my regular chop cup. I also have a basic routine for cups and balls that I can perform using any cups and a very special routine that I have for my larger cups.

Kent--

My approach is similar--I have a separate routine for my regular chop cup and my micro chop cup. For the 3-cup sets I have a routine for the regular set that is my "bread and butter". I developed a routine for the mini-cups, but don't use it much and go to the small chop cup in strolling situations. The big cups are definitely my next project. Creating these routines is a LOT of work, as you know!

The best example of different routines with different cups is: 1) Classic/Vernon-based, 2) Johnny Paul with sponge balls, 3) Hindu cups with Indian cups.

Not to mention bowls, various number of cups (and assorted objects--ala Ricky Jay) and the incredible number of patter themes.

It is an endless list.

So, another Sabbat is coming and my friend is getting me some Indian Cups. How are these cups different regarding a routine. I mean, is there a specific Indian Cup and Balls routine? If there is a routine geared specifically for these cups, oh I must learn it, I just must.

Golly, I would so appreciate anybody's help on this.

Love,

Hmm, okay, now I just had a really odd thought. Nobody has ever done a cups and balls routine using their bra as the cups, have they? The thought, as silly as it sounds, just occurred to me and it seems like it could really be a lot of fun to put together.

Hello Lily:

I'll answer your questions in reverse order. Someone has done a one cup routine using a bra cup. I don't remember who it was, but they ended with a "falsie."

The Indian Cups AKA the Hindu Cups are usually performed sitting on the ground. However, Steve Dacri has a routine on Volume 2 of his DVD set that is performed at a table. The way of performing is completely different than with a standard set of cups.

Thank you Bill,

Golly, Bill, that was so kind of you to share all of that with me, thank you. Here's a hug and a wiggle, okay.

I will do my best to get a copy of the DVD that you told me about, goodness, I'm so excited. Hmm, so, you sit on the ground, you say. Do you suppose anybody's done the routine while levitating? Now that might be an interesting twist.

As for the bra routine, that's so funny that somebody did it already. I'm glad that someone did, it means that the world is filled with silly thoughts like that which makes me smile.

Thank you again for your kindness. I so hope that someday we can meet.

Love,

Aw, shucks, Ma'am.

Seriously, I don't know if anyone has done the routine while levitating. I suspect, though, that some of my friends have done it while they were high.

LMAO!!
Having been on the Ren Faire circuit for as many years as you have Bill, I would imagine that is quite true. If anyone were to ever wonder where all the hippies went to in California, they would only have to venture as far as a local Renaissance Festival to find them! Ha.

Just down the hwy. from me is "Shakespeare Festival Road" which leads to a big compound in the woods where they do ren festivals. I have never been as its not really my thing but I always find it funny they have a road named that off the hwy. Of course, I am in Berkeley, CA Smile
