First thing to do is buy some good reference vid's like Tony Clark, Andy Amyx, General Grant to be sure you really want to get involved with doves. They are fun but they are also a lot of work and need constant care.
You might want to read through some of the topics in this forum to get an idea what you getting into.

Thanks, Dave. Are they really time consuming????

There not really that time consuming. If you have one or two in a room in your house, you feed them, play with them, etc., just like any pet.
However, you also have to train them which sometimes can be a little long and takes patience. |

Now, where do I buy doves?????

Meatball, let's clarify time consuming. Each dove will take about 6 weeks of daily training. Training should last at least an hour each day. Then you must work with them to get them used to your act and what you want them to do. You must keep their cages clean, and manicure their nails.
They are not props and need constant attention to establish a good rapport with them. Since you asked the same question again, I'll answer with the same response. Meatball, listen to Dave. He knows what he is talking about. Birds really do need care and attention and they depend on their caregiver for a quality life...the only life they have.
Take the time to do some research on The Café. Spend some time learning about the time and monetary investments that dove magic requires. While doves are hardy, avian vet bills can be really expensive. Research is the best thing you can do for your magic act AND any future doves. Then you will be ready to make an informed decision. Good luck!
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

Meatball, do you meen your going to wait to get the birds, or wait to buy the material such as dvds and info to get you started, or wait to get the doves?
Just buy the material and dvds to see if its for you.. It will also tell you everything you need to get for the dove before you actually go out and get it.. -Vinnie |

Meatball, I'm sure Autumn can help you, but if you just got the DVD's, then you need to watch and study them before buying the doves. As for the books from the pet store, they will teach you about caring for the birds, but won't go into any detail about training and getting them ready for act.

Glad to hear that. You'll be glad you waited. Too many new performers jump right out there and get their doves, then they find out they can't dedicate the time and change their minds.
What DVD's did you get?

Andy's DVD is an outstanding choice. If you have a little more cash, try getting Tony Clark's Unmasked Vol 1 and 2.

So glad to see you got some good reading material. Now do some intensive research. No rushing...you really need time to prepare and think. Doves are precious beings and take much time and love.
Contact me in 6 months when you are ready for doves. In the meantime, if you have any questions, we are here for you.
