(i re posted this because it was in the wrong forum) I recently learned a relatively safe method to eat glass and have been using it. I have been sticking with light bulbs since they're nice and thin but I was told the frosting on the inside of light bulbs is poisionus. I've tried finding clear light bulbs but they're hard to come across and because they're uncommon I think people may think they're fake. is it true that the frosting is posionus? If so is it a real danger type of posionus or just too much will make you sick? also if anyone who knows about this and answers I would like to pm a you a question that I don't want to say there so theres no exposure.

Wow, I have been eating glass for decades and I have NEVER heard of a "relatively safe" method for eating glass. There is no such thing as relatively safe glass eating unless you switch it out for something that looks like glass but is digestable. Don't worry about the coating of a light bulb. It's the glass that will kill you.

I will second what Todd has said, you are heading down a very dangerous path. I have been eating glass for many years and I can say that it is not at all a safe stunt to perform. I think whatever method you think you might have found that is "relatively safe" is going to be nothing less than harmful to you in the long run. If I were you I woud look into performing other stunts and leave this one alone. Take it from Todd....he really knows what he is talking about.

I will say nothing about eating glass, but the coating inside is Kaolin clay according to the material safety data sheet on GE light bulbs.
This is what it says regarding ingestion of Kaolin Clay: INGESTION: Give several glasses of milk or water. Vomiting may occur spontaneously, but it is not necessary to induce. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Spontaneous vomiting + glass fragments doesn't sound like a nice mixture. This is for GE (General Electric) bulbs. Matt

From the Wikipedia site on Kaolin. "It is used in ceramics, medicine, bricks, coated paper, as a food additive, in toothpaste, as a light diffusing material in white incandescent light bulbs, and in cosmetics. A recent use is as a specially formulated spray applied to fruits, vegetables, and other vegetation to repel or deter insect damage. A traditional use is to soothe an upset stomach." So like Todd said It's the glass that will kill you.

I'd like to know as well, I would think that such rude behavior would be below the members here on the Café.

Monte, Matt, whatever your name is, I am going to highly rcommend that you stick with the illiusionism and the "Magic" parts of the Café'. This area is NOT for people who pull tricks in front of audiences... this is a forum for discussion of traditional circus/sideshow stunts and 100% true daredevilry. I may be retired, but I have been a performer for almost a decade. I have only stage performed pierced weightlifting so extreme that it got me into the record books. In my time, I have been taught just about every stunt there is in the sideshow industry. They are NOT tricks, we do not FOOL anyone, and there is no ILLUSION. There is truth and in truth there is danger. Hundreds of performers around the globe have died doing what we do today. We learn from others' mistakes, not from a dime store book. I take offense to you referring to ANYONE here as "kids", it's insulting, especially when you don't realize that you can learn more from a child than you could from an Oxford professor, AND there's only one kid here and he's amazing (wink, Brett!).
As far as a magician goes, I've never heard of you nor seen your act. I cannot judge anything about other than your words here. You may want to learn how to spell prestidigitator properly as well. Good day to you sir.

I have looked at some of your pervious posts, both you and your little buddy. I do see that you have great recommendations and even a sense of humor. All of your problems stem from the fact that I was willing to recommend a book title to someone on glass eating. It's great that everyone recommends a professional, but don't pretend that this is something extremely complex, remember saying this:
Red Stuart taght me how to eat glass. When a 55 year old man with 6 teeth left in his head can do it, so can you! He say me down, broke a lightbulb with his GUMS, handed me a piece and said "stick it in your mouth and CHEW!". That was pretty much it. Uh.. don't try this unless Red is there with you. The reference to Darwinism is to the original posters "relatively safe method to eat glass" There particular aspects circus/sideshow stunts that I am interested in and investigating, and you highly recommending that I stick to the magic sections is something I find insulting. And while I have looked at Brett’s site and from what I saw he is an impressive performer, but following me and calling me stupid and rude is child-like behavior and is acting like a kid. I am sure he is a good kid, and that is why I won't argue with him. But acting like one none-the-less, and he has good posts in the past as well that make his statement above hypocritical, which tells me it is an attack because he didn't like the last discussion we had. You said: I cannot judge anything about other than your words here. You may want to learn how to spell prestidigitator properly as well. There is nothing offensive in my words here, and if anything I am supporting what YOU preach. Prestidigitator is spelled very obviously wrong on purpose. You will notice that I decided not to give advice on performing this stunt, but I will always refer people at least to a book, video, or website that contains information they are looking for (if I happen to know of one). You are of course free to mention every time I post somewhere that this is not magic and illusion, and it is dangerous, and you recommend a professional at all times. I agree with you 100%, but will not continue to argue over the same thing over and over again it's repetitious and unfair to the people that come here for information. I think everyone understands that these are stunts and not tricks. That they are dangerous, and are for professionals, and not to be taken lightly. I won't continue to respond to attacks that SEEM to revolve around that fact that you don't like that I can learn from books, and truly believe that other people can to. If I was performing all of these sideshow stunts, the last thing I would do is train someone else to do it. I would never be able to forgive myself if they got hurt. I do not have a problem passing on information, please keep in mind that some people are investigating methodology for these stunts, and want to learn more before attempting them, or before seeking out a teacher. The non-serious performers will realize that this is real and dangerous upon studying said methods, but giving someone a book title is not telling them to do something. Personal attacks can be PM'd to me or emailed if you like, don't clog up the Café and other peoples topics with them if they are not helpful. I will not continue to respond to them, and I don't need to have the last word. Good day to you as well sir.

Well now, it seems we've come full circle. To Zawert the OP, and anyone else who wants to eat glass: You are right to be so skepical about the common advise surrounding this trick. It's a perfectly safe trick and always has been. Mr Robbins and his ilk, by spending so much of their time warning curiosity seekers from performing this stunt, have been pulling your collective legs for many years, mainly in their desire to protect their Bread & Butter trick.
Just ignore these jealous nay-sayers and get on with it, I say! And don't forget to add my name to your life insurance policy, okay? |

After 20+ years of doing this stunt I never found a safe way of doing it. Barry Walls died through a combination of this stunt and sword work (I no longer do either in the show).
Guess I never found the right book !!!!!!! Still what do I know? Ken |

Nips, thanks for the compliments.
In regards to Matt: Posting in two different threads on the same topic is hardly "following" you around. You come across as very arrogant and have quite the "inflated" ego. You may want to try humbling yourself now and again. You might find that it earns you respect ( Although I'm sure you wouldn't care for any respect from our likes). And I hope for your sake that some one dumb enough to follow your advice gets hurt so that you can learn the hard way. I write that because saying anything else would be like beating a dead horse...You are going to do what ever you want to do, and it's your right. For the record: There is one other person here that is younger than me, and who stole the title of "Youngest Sideshow Performer in The World" . That person would be Erik Kloeker. We've never spoken directly and I've never seen him perform, but from what I've heard he is a good performer ( and a sword swallower ). Thank you, Brett.
