It's an easy matter to put them on DVD if you so desire. I believe the subscription price is $9.95 per 2 lessons, at least for me but I've subscribed since day one. It may be more if you subscribed later on. This is such a fantastic and well-done series that I'm quite sure that Penguin won't just let it disappear and it will likely be offered on DVD at some point but that could be a ways off. |

Yeah I think they just want to sell ID's for now but they will offer the DVDS at some point as Dan said in a private message they may. Some say "why" or that it is "not needed" but I say why not? I am from the old school of book learning but when I first saw VHS it helped me out a lot to see the timing and misdirection used, as well as sample performances and tips etc. Plus you can learn a lot faster via video than a book, the only advantage of a book is that you get way more for the price and you can always have it with you etc. But I believe both are important and compliment each other well.
I was going to subscribe back when they started but I do not always have extra being I buy a lot of expensive magic stuff and OOP books I have been getting back. So I kinda prefer to just buy something and be done with it. They will probably offer the DVDS once the lessons are finished. I would rather just buy them than get all the stuff to burn them myself, don't have time for that stuff and I prefer a professional product anyway. I might just get a hard drive solely to keep magic files on lol. But I still would want a hard copy of them all. If you subscribe now are they still $9.95 for two? That is why I was wondering how many were left.

I checked and it is $19.95. I don't use cards anyway much only paypal so really not an option to subscribe.

I thought PayPal introduced some type of subscription service but not sure as I've never had a need for it.
You can find 1 TB external hard drives on sale for about $50 or less. I just bought a couple 4TB drives which were $129 each if I remember right. So they just keep getting cheaper. I agree with you. I prefer having videos on DVD for 2 reasons. 1. I don't really like watching long videos on a computer or tablet. 2. I like to watch them while I'm on the treadmill (they make the time fly by for me) and DVD's are just easier for that in my case. I make mental notes about things that I'm interested in and then of course rewatch them again later. So a lot of DL's I will burn to DVD for that reason. It's a pretty safe bet that when the Tarbell series is completed it will be made available on DVD. But that may be a long way off. |

Yeah I like to watch then on my 55 inch HDTV lol. But yeah I looked into hard drives as well as an option. I also do not know for sure if I can have money in every month, sometimes I have a lot in or none so I would rather just buy a set and be done with it. Not have to worry every month about having enough in. But if they are the same price anyway there is really no point or advantage to subscribing now anyway. I can just get them when they show up for the same price. I already know everything in Tarbell but it is cool to see new takes on stuff and how others perform and "modernize" it even though it does not really need to be as I believe the old ways are what makes them appealing. But in some cases it makes sense to do so. I love the classics and am a traditionalist at heart but I also love some of the newer stuff as well.

They're $20 each normally, but $10 each with the subscription.

Modernized or traditional, Dan Harlan does an absolutely phenomenal job with this series. You have to be an incredibly versatile and talented magician to handle the wide variety of effects covered in the series.
I think people unfamiliar with the series tend to dismiss it or overlook it and have no idea how well produced it is. I think this series will prove to be a major part of Harlan's legacy. |

I added the subscription to the cart but it said $19.95 so they must have raised it.Yeah I have been an "all-round" magician for 36 years, but I started in close-up then went to parlor then did both, then went to mentalism, kids shows, stage and illusions, kids shows, and back again lol. I had a lot of time to become very proficient in all aspects. I got my first set or Tarbell 36 years ago around age 7 and they were my foundation in magic, along with The Amateur Magician's Handbook, Mark Wilson's Complete Course, and Harry Loraynes The Magic Book. They started it all for me, but little did I know I would accumulate thousands of books up until now and that I would still be doing magic for a living, still collecting, and still learning. But we all have our favorites also.
I especially love all the periodicals as well in which I have most of them in print, and if not on CD and in many cases both. Especially love Apocalypse, Hugard's Magic Monthly, The Jinx, The Sphinx, The Phoenix, The Magigram and so many more. I also love all the huge old magic books, The James File, Greater Magic, Mind, Myth, & Magick, The Secret Ways of Al Baker, and so many more. I also love the original lessons book by Magic Makers. I consider Tarbell the "bible of magic" and the best overall course one can get. All the other books are great as well and add on to what the course teaches. But I also noticed the great production quality as well and found the videos very appealing, so it sparked my interest as an old school traditionalist who loves the old style of magic and that of the Vaudeville era. So I am definitely gonna get them all somehow over time. Even the Live Lectures seem to be all on DVD and some look longer than the Tarbell Course. So I was a bit surprised to not to see the DVD option.

It used to be $9.95 a month. But recently they jumped to $19.95 and they didn't inform any one... I got a bill one day and saw that my subscription was twice as much as it had been in the past. Not sure I want to pay $20 a month. I wish they would have notified their subscribers of the new price.

OK I saw that and they said though "The subscription is $19.95 per month for 2 lessons" but it was not stated in the info I don't think. So I guess they are just charging for two lessons. Dan also said he is only about half way done!

"There are 103 Lessons, some of which I have to split to properly cover all the material. So, we're just halfway through the entire course. Plenty more to come. --Harlan"
Wow ONLY half way?! Will be A LOT of downloads and DVDS! Can't wait! Smile

OK I see that but either way I guess you are forced to pay $19.95 for two and not able to get just one for $9.95 which I thought at first. But I can just get a few at a time and maybe the DVDS later if they have them. I would rather wait for the DVDS but at the same time I want to see them faster lol. So I might just have to get the ID's a few at a time or at least one a month which would be plenty of time to go through the lessons again, even after 36 years of study and practice lol. There still is A LOT to learn!

What is the average size of each lesson? Was wondering if they would all fit on a 2 TB Hard Drive so trying to figure out the size of each lesson so I know which one to buy.

I think the first two lessons I downloaded were like 239 MB and that was like 39:30 minutes. Thought I saw most were two hours or more. Probably would have to just be stuck downloading it from Penguin. But that is a lot of money to spend for something I do not have a hard copy of and could lose possibly if I had no back ups although they most likely will remain there. I assume they are 250-500 MB each about, 1000 MB = 1 GB, 1000 GB = 1 TB So two lessons take about 1 GB max, for 100 lessons about 50 GB so I guess that sounds like plenty enough room.
