Can anyone recommend a good wireless lapel mic? I need my hands free, so a wireless handheld mic wouldn't work.
Thanks! |

I wouldn't suggest a lapel mic (lavalier), I would go with a good, low-profile wireless (or you could even go with wired if you want and don't need the mobility) headset or earset. I use a Countryman earset, and it's almost invisible.

I was looking at a Shure wireless headset, but wasn't sure (hmm... pun?) if it would do the job.

John,
We can try to help, but I think your question(s) need to be more specific. Otherwise, you're going to get reams of well-meaning advice by rote, and most of it will not help meet your, as yet, unidentified needs. What is your budget? Do you do illusions or mentalism? Do spectators need to be heard speaking on stage? Do you speak over top of background music? Will anyone else use your mic? Do you take anything on or off your head during your show? There may be more quaestions, John, but the answers to these ones will get us started. Good luck, John, and "Cheers" from Toronto!

I have a Shure UHF dual-antenna system, a "Presenter", I believe. It is extremely small and works very well. I have never had problems with range or interference.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

We use the DPA....it is more costly. But every sound engineer we work with loves the sound and hands down they all say it is the best mic out there and blows away the Countryman.
The countryman is a great mic as well..I'm not bashing it...just relaying our experience with the DPA. Kevin

I do mentalism and I have a wireless mic to bring around when I want people to talk, since its more easily controlled. I don't usually talk over music, though I do play an occassional song.

I use a Shure PGX with a headset mic. I believe yuo can get a lavalier (lapel) mic with it if you prefer. The Shure is good quality at a good price. I love how easy mine is to set up and operate.

I'm a full-time radio announcer, and have used ElectroVoice for many, many years...
Now, I've found that Sennheiser makes a great sounding mic. Shure is an old standby...I've never used a Shure Lapel. Wow...I just looked at the mic I'm using on the air right now...it's a Shure SM-7 Studio Mic! Well, well. Regardless, don't skimp, because you want to save $$$! Kevin and Regan are spot-on, in my opinion. I've been looking for a mic/headset for remote broadcasts, and found this: http://www.proaudio.com/product_info.php......s_id=470 Now if this could be made wireless, it would be ideal! Now, for wireless LAPEL systems, lookie here: http://www.proaudio.com/index.php?cPath=140_142_406 you have 36 choices there...lot of good stuff. Hope this helps a bit! Doug |

I have a countryman e6 but never use it. I can't get it to stop looseing up during a show. I may use it someday.
I use an Audio Technica lapel 700 series. It works perfect. I have it hooked to a PD250 fender. Nice. Everything is perfect. Hands free no mic hooked to my ear etc. John |
