He practices as a dentist deep in suburb of Gifu City which is just center of Japan main land.
He is a wonderful creator of Magic, but is also a creator in Dentist technique. He once got a prize in Dentist conference in Europe, where he performed magic in relation with 'Teeth/Dentistry'. At least four years ago, he was very active in creating magic. I have not visited him and met him after then. You will be astonished if you got a chance to visit his house and open the drawer of a chest. In one of drawers, there are many coiled ropes, maybe more than 50. In other drawers, there are many decks of cards. When he concentrated on a certain theme, he create such amount of effects about the theme. I don't know how many tricks he has ever created, but I'm very sure far more than 1000. Hideo Kato |

I believe it was last year or the year before he was at the FFFF covention. His coin work is still superb. His book "Introduction to Coin Magic" should be in every magician's library.

I hope someday Dr Sawa sees fit to let go of his "children" into our literature.

His work with an Okito Box is very interesting. Is anyone familiar with his "special" Okito Box?

(I am sure about this as he has been a good friend of mine for a long time). That is the fact there are very few books even in Japan. (The one I authored for him is one of his two or three books). It is also one of reasons that Sawa-san does not speak nor write in English. When Richard Kaufman-san authored and published that book, he took Sawa-san's performnace on video and write and illustrated after coming back to US. He is a busy man in his business and considerably a rich man. There are many reasons for there are not many books about Dr. Sawa. Hideo Kato |

I never knew that Sawa was so reserved in releasing his creations. Nevertheless, I wish to see more of his material in the future.

He is not so reserved. I meant he was more interested in creating magic itself than prouding his creations by publishing.
I think Publishing one's creations is not neccesarily a matter of course for creators. Most of excellent creators' motivation to create have been a passion to create new thing, nice thing, etc. Never to proud creations, never to make money. Hideo Kato |

Thanks Magiguy-san for informing the link.
Maybe the reason of poor sales was that the book looked not so interesting when one riffled pages. Beauty of Sawa's magic can't be seen on written pages. I can't forget the day Dai Vernon and Larry jennings were moved to tears by Sawa's magic in a Hotel room in Tokyo in 1969. I was their interpreter at that moment. Hideo Kato |

It is based on Shigeru Sugawara's 'Squeeze Play'.
If you read instruction of 'Squeeze Play', you will learn better position of hands to squeeze two cards. Hideo Kato |
