I'm surprised no one has yet posted a reply to jasanchez. I too would like to know where to purchase General Grants holders. Anyone in the know out there?

Guys, the General does not have a website or anything, so he sells from out of his house.. You have to send him the check, money order, or cash, and then he sends what you buy out to you...
You can contact him via email at GGMagic@aol.com -Vinnie |

I am happy to report Thomas Clark may have a very nice one handed dove holder soon, and I am very anxious to buy one...
Hopefully, his tests with the prototypes will go well... YAY one that works! Steven |

Shimada's one hand dove bag releases are $20.00. They are listed half way down this page: http://www.misdirections.com/dove.html

I just looked into the Shimada dove bags off Misdirections Magic Shop, and they are actually 50 dollars right now. However, a lesser expensive alternative would be the Bazar De Magia Dove Bags available in black, white, and newspaper design, ranging from 12 to 20 dollars depending on where you buy them. I just got a newspaper one, and I think it works great. I like the simple snap design; it, too, with practice could be opened with one hand. I will be using this model in a couple stage shows I have on Monday.
I have also used previously the one hand dove bag by Tim Sonefelt of Wonder Imagery. However, this model is discontinued now. It used the hook and eye release system, which is my personal favorite method. I also like the idea previously posted of attaching a coin or comparable sized object to the hook in order to ensure a more accurate and reliable release. I also recently received a Tony Clark one hand release dove bag. I must say that I do like the design of the bag. However, it would be difficult to make the release from one hand with this bag, or any other bag that uses the Velcro method. However, I am easy to please and would say as long I'm not being sent a zippered model, I'm good. I ordered a 30 dollar dove from silk from Hank Lee's Magic Factory over a year ago, and I would say it indeed has a zipper that goes all the way from the head to the tip of the tail. It has also been a tight fit for many of my doves. However, I did like that this bag had a silk sewn onto where it was surrounded by the silk. This does create a more invisible and deceptive steal. However, having to unzip the bag takes a little too long and many viewers my be able to determine what is actually going on. I did get the simple dove pocket from Tony Clark, and I do love the this pocket. However, another magician in Houston gave me a pocket about a year ago that he made himself, and I find it to be just as good if not better in my view. If anyone would like some more information on this pocket, please email me and I would be more than happy to help you out as much as possible. My mother is a seamstress, and I am about to have her make me a ton of them. So if anyone wants a super cheap dove pocket, let me know. I could get her to make about 50. She has made of lot of this stuff in the past, and they are always high quality, very durable, and made to last. There are many things you may favor on this model over Tony's. Well, thanks for reading this post, and I wish y'all all a magical day! Nitro Neal |

I am using Thomas Clark's and giving him feedback about it. Works very well; sometimes there is a exit issue with the dove, and I am discussing that with him. When he is totally happy with it, I will do a full review.
The one handed release is not the issue, as it works great. James Adamson
Be remembered for performing what looks like MAGIC, not skill.

In response to Gothike, the hing method was Slydini. (At least, I thought) I knew Zicarte well, and he never told me that the pin release method was his. I really don't like the Grant bag because the doves head and tail stick out. And if your dove is too small, the bag will not stay closed very well. The Shimada bag is really not ideal for a double dove production. The Bazar is a knock off of Shimada's bag. Anyway, when you find the bag you like and that works for you, stick with it. Take care!
Andy Amyx Look into Tony Clark's One Handed Release. They use small door hinges. They are a knock-off of Zicarte's design. |

Thanks for taking the time to respond everyone, especially Andy.
I settled on using the dove holders I have been using for a long time, made by Thomas Clark. His one handed release bags have a small modification. I ended up using that modification on all my dove holders, and I have to say, it made a significant improvement in my whole act. I can't recommend them highly enough, especially when your on a budget like mine. Releasing the dove from a silk or whatever seems much more magical with one hand. Steven |

Hi Andy,
I have problems with your holder. It really is too small for my doves. I have to cut their tails, and I don't like that. And sometimes the holder opens prematurely because the release bar hit the loop holder inside the edge of my jacket during the production. Please tell me what to do. Thanks! DoveLover |
