Any one have any good lines that can be used during your opener to let the people know you are there working for tips?

I would just do my show and most will tip. I don't believe you should have to tell them.

As has been discussed before, this is a some-what touchy subject. There have been many discussions on TIPS. Here is mine... I don't ever try and solicit tips. I always let my audience know ( in the restaurant) that I'm there to entertain them compliments of the management.
This in my opinion puts them at ease. They are already going to tip the waitress/waiter and I don't want to be seen as someone else dipping in their pockets. That's why you should negotiate a reasonably adequate fee from the restaurant. People will also come back to see you more often if they know you aren't going to try and schmooze a tip. If someone offers me a tip ( which happens often) I politely refuse and say I'm compencated by the restaurant, but if they insist I accept it, thank them, and split it with the their server. I also like to be recognized as a professional and not a "WILL DO TRICKS FOR A COUPLE BUCKS" kinda guy. DO a search on Tips in the forum and you will find adequate information. David Paul

if you are good then the tips will come, asking or hinting at tips will make you look like a rank amature.
worse yet it will leave a sour taste in thier mouth for all magicians. the tip is there way of trying to say thank you. I am offer tips from about 60% of my tables, I do not accept them but rather tell them to pass it on to the staff, this lets them say thanks for having me there and the staff loves me. dean hankey has also told me the same thing. be polite, and you will get tipped, weather you accept or reject ( politly) is up to you just my 2 cents Michael Macdonald |

I have the exact opposite. I have been in the same high class restaurant for 10 years. I am very good at what I do. I would say that I get tips from about 5% of the tables.
Why so low? I do nothing to even hint at tips. When I am tipped, they usually have to be very fast to offer it, or they must get up & offer it to me elswhere. What I do is a gift from restaurant. I also feel that because they are paying a high price for their meal, they don't feel that a tip would be in order. On the other hand, while they don't tip, they do hire me for show. That after all is why I am there. |

I have strong feelings about tips. I don't want them. My arrangement with the restaurant I work is a flat fee for so many hours.I once refused an 800 dollar tip once. Why? I am not there for tips I am there to get the bigger gigs from their clients outside of the restaurant .I entertain a high end clentele consisting of business owners, doctors ,lawyers, judges, politicians, casino owners and mobsters etc. In their eyes a person who hustles tips is just that ...a hustler ,and a hustler is not the type of person they would want to invite to their homes or private banquet rooms to mingle with their friends. When I am offered a tip I politely explain that the owner is taking very good care of me.That also has endeared me to the restaurants management and eliminates any animosity from the waiters and bartenders by not cutting into their tips since they depend on tips.Consequently out of respect for me they help me get lucrative outside work from the clientele. What goes around comes around.
