Here are my feelings on 3CM, first of all I have been doing this for years on the streets, markets and race tracks here in Ireland. In reality this is a scam not a magic trick.
Ok so what if some one picks the monte card what do you do? Its simple, you pay him. Over the years I have learned that doing 3CM is a scam that also works of a percentage. So let me give you an example of last Saturdays monte game. I started the game with a 120 euro float. At the end of the day I had 750. Ok so lets talk about money thought out the day. I can tell you that if I did not let any one win and if I took every body’s money, I would have maybe 1700 euros (ball park). My point here is that if some one dose pick the monte card it is not the end of the world. Besides you have to let people win or they will not play. At the end of the day if you stick to a routine the 3CM percentage will always kick it. That is the real beauty of 3CM it is a scam with an added percentage. NOT a magic trick! |

I was thinking, we play 3cm with (as an example) 2 black cards and one red.
what if we in reality have 2 reds and 1 black card? I mean we show one red and via hype we show 2 blacks. this way if the people choses the red one we also can show the other red one. it is like the shell game with two peas. one flaw would be that we never can show all 3 ard face up but I think this is not a problem. maybe show the the real cards first, taking them from the deck, then switch and use the hype to show 2 blacks all the time. |

Just to dredge a topic back to the top.... Did you ever find a solution to this problem Nicholas?
In the case of two spectators I either ask one if they agree ala Whits advice on school for scoundrels or ask them (the second spectator) to place a second bet; so now there are two bets down : one on the ace the other on the joker; remark they made there bets on this card (pick up the ace) and this card (pick up joker in same hand ready to double flash) then say unfortunately you bet on the losers (flash, hype, flash, toss) this time keep your eye on the ace: gesturing but not showing the other joker on the table! Then mix, pick up throw etc to confuse. With one spectator I have them cover there bases by choosing a second card then as above. Would love to hear how you approach this now and good luck with your monte tour

Sounds you like a need a partner (or less ethics). If you're not familiar with the variations, check out this http://scams.wikispaces.com/Three+Card+Monte You'll find that, while 3cm has it is basis as a scam, it has been, quite successfully, turned into a magic routine as well. Much like pickpocketing is both a crime and a form of entertainment. ------ K- Thanks for the good luck! The best way, for me, to play this game against a spectator in a magic show is to do the following:- 1) Choose an 'assertive' player. A passive player will not follow the card and just guess. An aggressive player will try and second or third guess you, which has the same effect as guessing. 2) I encourage quick decisions. I don't give them too long to guess, encouraging them to guess quickly. 3) I always include some sort of extra element. Some sort of 'fake move' or bogus explanation to keep the spec away. E.g. I do a sneaky switch of two cards when the ace is actually the third one! 4) I keep the stakes to a minimum. I present the routine as a lesson rather than a game. It only becames a game when I win |
