Recently I have seen online ,in random performers videos, them using large Plastic spinning bowls. They actually look like kids buckets. and some have metalic tape around the side.
Anyone have a clue on where you get these?
They are not from any of the the major US juggling manufactures.

Do they use a stick, or do they spin them on their finger? I have seen people use large tuperware type salod bowls on a stick.

Hey, Larry,

Matthew and I spin bowls in our show. We use melamine bowls with a deep rim purchased from our friendly local Chinese restaurant supply house. They sell platters, plates, and bowls of all shapes and sizes.

I've also seen people replace the bottoms of plastic mixing bowls with the deep-rimmed, tapered bottoms of plastic spinning plates.

And Jay Green in Brooklyn manufactures equipment like that. He's usually at the Pratt Institute juggling festival, which, co-incidentally enough is this weekend. JuggleNYC.com

Any more specific questions, please shoot me an email or a pm. But I'm not on the Café as much as I'd like to be.

Best wishes,

Brian

Yea....Jay Green. He was the first I saw that did the bowls...and he attached a plastic plate to the bottom of the tub. He also did a trick I had never seen before (16-18 years ago). Spinning one plate and balancing it on top of a second spinning plate. I have used this for years and it always great a great reaction. Jay did it with 2 big tubs and plastic ninja swords...Great eye candy.

Thanks Jay!!

Poop

the show I am in, Circus Maximus, is awesome!
And even though I am supposed to be the featured performer, get a load of the lineup
Gena Shvartsman, the Christianis Trampoline, Dick Franco, Joseph Bauer Wheel of death, Dunde's Elephants...Etc.
Strong cast
and the show is booked by George Carl's family
this is going to be fun!

Heyguys,
First thanks to everyone for your help.
The bowls I saw WERE made by Jay Green (thanks Brian).
They look like large kids sand buckets, or deep salad bowls.
Pretty neat!
Now does anyone have a email for him?

Hey Larry,

Off topic - I heard the working conditions at that 'circus' you were with in the Bahamas were atrocious. Care to comment? I bet it was cool working with Gena, Franco and Vince Bruce, though ...

Hey Mike
Is that Dick Franco's daughter? I met her several times, but I thought her name was Noel Franco.

Hey Al and Larry,

Al, as Larry mentioned Noel Franco is of course Dick's daughter. I believe she is working for Ceasar's in Vegas currently. Her and my brother, Joel used to be with Excaliber prior to 9/11. They both shared the same stage doing solo acts.

Gena Schvartsman (sp?) is a very pretty, very talented juggler who I've seen clips of her show but would love to see in person.

And Vince Bruce is the best trick and fancy rope spinner performing today. PERIOD.

Larry, thanks for confirming the 'interesting' scene down on the island. I'm sure y'all ROCKED.

Aloha-ha,
Cap'n Mike

Noel is currently working at the Rio. Her and 2 other jugglers have a spots on stage at different times throughout the day.
Dick's 9yr old stepson, Tyler, work in Dicks act doing his own mini juggling act. kinda neat!

Vince Bruce is Phenomenal, the best hands down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and a lot of fun to be around.
this was my first time working with Dick and Vince (who are very old friends)

But I have known Gena for years.
She is the 2nd greatest juggler I know.

Well,
The conditions we were in were not as bad as some would say, but they weren't great though.
I have worked American Mud shows that were worse.
the hardest part was the audiences, we had a3 week run and the first week it was small crowds the next week it got bigger and the last week we were packed.
(the island is laid back and waits to the last second to do EVERYTHING!!!)
It was particularly hard for me in the show because I don't have an autopilot mode.
and becuase I am more of a skills clown than anything else, and who am I working with, but 3 jugglers and a trick roper, so I brought a trunk full of Props I can't use!
AND because I was hired to perform audience participation gags with my skills so I get there and
A. for a while there were not enough people to pull from the audience to even use in my gags
and B. they didn't want to come up and help.
Now I am not "New" to this, I have been doing it a while. I feel good in my audience selection/management. I am not a clown that makes fun of people (I hate that style of circus clowning). So I craft my bits to build through-out the show, so the audience feels comfortable with me. They can take their time to learn that I am trustable and and hope to see me do well. (I put way to much thought into this crap)
But down there I couldn't even pay people to come up. Crazy!
We had tons of Wacky things happen to us, and a bunch of wacky people around us.
We had storms that brought tornados and knocked down the tent, waist deep water throughout the lot that we had to pump out out right until showtime. A hotel that is being "renovated" as we are sleeping, with no phones, and a broken pay phone. The hotel would Randomly shut off the water (mind you we were the only patrons) always when we just get back from performing and in the morning. Workers coming up missing during one show and the appearing the next day during the show. Carny bosses! A show bus that ran on it's own relaxed "whenever we get there" schedule and would take a new route every day and night stopping for well what ever he felt like (nothing ever to do with the bus FULL of performers trying to get home). Fire ants. High costs of living that make it Impossible to save money. More fast food chains than grocery stores. This lists could go on and on.
I now call the Nassau Bahamas the Armpit of the Caribbean now.
It's like Tijuana without all the hookers.

But in all it's circus and that's a life like no other!
