Found an excellent source for scissors. http://www.shopscissors.com/ For magicians doing rope tricks, they suggest their 7 3/4" High Leverge Shears. Price $18.95. Shipping $2.95. How they work? Priceless! These are a hefty quality pair of scissors. Just for the record, I have no financial affiliation with this company.

Rope scissors?

Hmmmmm, I use a Buck knife. Opens with one hand.

Works great. Lot's of misdirection and comedy byplay here.

THIS MIGHT NOT BE LEGAL IN SOME JURISDICTIONS.

It is in Delaware, but switchblades are verbotten.

Check with your local sheriff first.

Yes, that's a good looking pair of scissors. My opinion is that scissors for magic shows should look like that. Big shiny real scissors. No orange handle.

Good find.

Hey, Cheaptrick:
Do you know what we used to call a switch blade?

A Brooklyn credit card.

I bought that pair of scissors from shop scissors.com. Close up they don't really look that finished. They work well, but I prefer my mundials that I got from Joanns Fabric. They also have the four indices one would find on cards.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

For my adults shows, I use a switchblade. They sell them in some places around here, as "automatic knives". Mine is the classic Italian style. Very sharp, too.

OK, I have a large chrome set with American flag handles, plus a plastic case that I bought at the Joann fabric store. They are usually $33 but if you shop there all the time like I do, you get coupons in the mail. So I got mine for $24. I also took them to the knife sharpener to round off the points for several reasons. "The Vishnu Rope Mystery" can not be done with pointy scissors.

Where can you get the enormously long pair that Gene Anderson uses for his newspaper routine (seen in his Greater Magic Video Library tape)? Now, THAT'S a pair of scissors. Smile

If you want big, you might want to look at a pair of 18" scissors.

http://www.ceremonialscissors.com/18inch......ors.html

Or the old fashioned 8” dress makers scissors (no orange handle here):
http://www.joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID......D=185579
Or an 8” knife edge:
http://www.joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID......ID=47311

12 inch “Paper Shears” (not that good for rope):

For rope:

Or the 12 inch rope shears:

And there are more! This is just the tip of the Scissor iceberg!

I found two kinds I like.

1. Super Shears from Tandy Leather (Actually for cutting leather)

and

2. Poultry Shears used in meat processing plants for cutting up chickens.

Both just look like scissors from home. People misuse good magic tools all the time!
