I would appreciate any help that someone can give.
I wish to purchase a Nest of Boxes, but do not wish to spend too much, if I do not have to. I was looking at one from the Magic Warehouse ($75) and another from Hank Lees ($249). Does anyone have an opinion on this. It would seem to me that the workings of the effects are the same, the only difference being the materials used. Is this correct. Any other suggestions in that ball park. Thanks for any help that you can give. Bob |

Go for a used set of Vikings.
They sell for $450 new. Place an add in the wanted section. |

I've found that a signed coin/bill to locked box is much more logical in presentation than a nest of boxes (besides the nest of boxes tend to "talk" during the loading process). You ask the question where is money the "safest", and that of coarse is in a locked safe. Just a thought.

I had a set from Hank lees and I was very dissapponited. I think Hank has a great shop and have been very happy with everything else but this product. This is by no means an insult to Hank I was just not happy with that trick. I would save your money.

This is not correct. There are many different methods, and materials. Some methods allow the box to be out in the audience before the production, others the box is out of sight. Materials are a thing to be considered, I have a set from Mel Babcock that I have used for the past four years that still look brand new, while a set I picked up cheap from "another source" did not last through half a dozen performances before it needed serious care. You get what you pay for, don't go cheap! Arthur |

Is there a way of making your own nest of boxes? I would like to do it to a russian doll for children's parties. Has this been done before? Is there a way of just using the gimmick?

I saw a set this past weekend at the Cavalcade of Magic by a vendor Dazzlingmagic.com made by Fairchildmagic.com. It looked really good quality for $99.00.
Check it out at either of those two sites..........

Hi Magicjasmine,
I've just been reading "A Host of Surprises" by Edwin and in it he gives a super routine for a nest of boxes effect using a set of Russian dolls. The routine in question is on page 287 entitled "Russian Rhapsody". If you need any more help just PM me. Best Magical Wishes Lester |

The question should be no so much about what set of boxes, the question should be what is the most magical way to get the item in the box.

Robert,
What object will end up in the boxes? This affects the available options. BTW, check out the Tommy Wonder books for some VERY interesting thoughts on the nest of boxes. If memory serves me right, at least one of his solutions would be reasonably easy to make (and at least one would not) Regarding the post about Russian nesting dolls, there is also a version of that effect with a signed bill in a set of Jon Brunelle lecture notes from about 15-20 years ago. Great routine. Hope this helps. Respectfully, DD |

In addition, the Nested Russian Doll routine by Jon Brunelle mentioned by DD was published in one of two "One-Man Parades" in the Linking Ring Magazine. If anyone has the CD version of the Linking Ring it should not be too difficult to locate that article. It is a good routine.
One thought that occurs to me is that now you can purchase custom Russian Nesting Dolls with David Copperfield and others depicted on the dolls. There might be some interesting possibilities here... Julie |
