I'm posting for the first time and must say I'm rather nervous; a retention vanish is something I have *always* struggled with.
I'm looking for your feedback... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bETUaKPO30s Best, Alym

The finger technique itself looks really good but I think the right hand coming down could look a bit more natural.
Try putting the coin into a downs palm or a curl palm - or get it into finger palm and try doing Ramsay subtely. I know to magicians it will be a give away but using it could make your hand look more natural imo. Just my small opinion though. |

Thanks, that helps a lot!
For this one, I think it's a case of trying to keep the hands in frame. In performance the dirty hand would drop to my side...

Ah, I see. The approach of taking away attention from the hand would work as well. It was just my "perfectionist nature" getting ahead of me as usual...
I know this was just a retention vanish video but were you thinking of a routine to use it in? |

I'm slowly working on the David Stone routine w/ the bottle production; it's unreal how easy it is to do the vanish into a silk!
More importantly though, the ROV vanish was something I always have done poorly so I've really been trying to improve it. As such, I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thank you to all those who have already pm'd me with ideas! Best, Alym

I think that it looked great. I had a friend (layman, not into magic at all) watch it and he was really impressed, he watched it several times and guessed "camera tricks" as the solution. No greater compliment than that!

Well I never liked that variation of the ROV vanish but in your hands looks absolutely amazing! No finger movements at all to steal the coin or retain the coin. Good work!!! Keep it up.
You should also take a look at Rannies ROV vanish (RUB Vanish) wich is also great! Best Regards Pablo

Lookds very good to me, though coin magic isn't my thing so I might not be the best to critique.

I guess you are doing the timing part okay, as its VERY hard to tell on a slow frame camera.
Remember... you MUST have a reason for putting the coin there and you MUST have a reason to close your hand around the coin. Without those...
...to all the coins I've dropped here
