Remember Marshall Brodine? He was on the Bozo show here in Chicago as Wizzo the Clown Magician. All of his tricks were performed with a special green emerald called The Stone of Zanzibar. His magic words were "Doodee doodee doodee"

Now that I think of it, 25 years ago that was some funny stuff!

Anyone else from The Midwest remember that?

I think Kramer from Seinfeld would make a pretty funny Magician.

The Amazing Johnathan get's my vote here.

You just gotta laugh!

I just saw one of David Blaines specials on TLC. I really can't believe this guy.

1. His acting is completely horrific. He's more creepy than magical.

2. It almost seems like someone is telling him to do each move from a wireless ear piece.

3. He does magic for the completly simple minded.
example: a. Drunks at Mardi Gras
b. Winos on the street
c. Hillbillies
d. Drug dealers
e. A voodoo village in Hades(most didn't want anything to do with him)
f. A tribe of natives in Borneo or Somewhere like that.
(The National Geographic type.)

I laughed the most at how clueless the natives were....to him. Oh, they laughed and looked surprised, but not too much about his magic.

It seems the only time Mr Blaine does anything infront of the local population, it's too far away of he just sits/stands doing nothing.

Hmmmmmm?

*** PLEASE don't take this as an Insult to David Blaine. Mr Blaine's magic is very good and a lot of people emulate him. But pleeeease, don't try to pull a fast one on fast ones like us.

I did enjoy his special I saw last night, but it did make me laugh a good hardy laugh.

Tom Mullica - When I first time saw him performing his Cigarrete Eating routine, I was floored "Exuse me mam, is my smoking bothering you?", and when when he did the ballon animal sculpturing secuence "Here, lets make it an jewish zebra" me and my friend was on the floor rolling around and crying with laughter. And the Card in Mouth effect "No matter how popular you are, or how many friends you got, the size of your funeral will always depend on the weather" I died.
Oh I forgot to mention, this I saw on Joe Steven's Magic Video Library #19.
By all means, buy it, its worth it.

Tommy Cooper - God bless this man's soul, he have made me laff so hard so many, many times on telivision. The sheer size of him (He was tall), the look he had, the hair was everywhere, plus that fez, and sweating all the time "Look, Im leaking!", and that maniac laugher he had. To much. It was fitting he died the way he did, on the stage.

Topper Martyn - This man (now RIP) is to be blamed for starting my interest in our beloved art. We met on several occations at his shop in "The Old Town" here in sweden. And also at magical meetings held by the Swedish Magical Cirkel.
I first saw his act many years ago, when he is entering the stage (empty), greeting " GOOD EVING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!" and cards, balls, ciggarets - you name it, started falling out of his tux, completly covering the stage. His hillarious version of the Three Rings, a microphone, and a pair of cissors, all geting linked together at the end "HELP!". Not to forget his juggling either, he was an expert on this, where he is juggling with 3 ordinary balls, which is shrinking step by step. Happy and somewhat puzzled expression "Come on, I don't cheat!", "Yes you do!" "Yes, but only a little". You had to love this man.

Blimey - this thread has been going a while, and why not a while longer? Meanwhile, for me: Mel Mellers and John Archer have had me reaching for oxygen!

I don't take it as an insult to David Blaine, but to Hillbillies.

Have you known any Hillbillies? Have you performed magic for Hillbillies? What is a Hillbilly? Is David Blaine a Hillbilly? Am I a Hillbilly?

Forget it. No one understands me, really.

What a treasure trove of names here!!..... thanks for starting this Steve (and breaking up the first six threads or so of our 'Now that's Funny' topic...imho these were becoming tedious and not adding much to the serious business of comedy magic). How I wish each of these funny guys were featured doing six of their best on a dvd set from L & L on 'Magic's Greatest Funny Guys' ( most women in magic I haven't found that funny... in fact I don't find most women funny!...you know, in that 'funny' kind of way!). Obviously, to each his own....but I was surprised to see the names of Maven, Ammar and Sankey on this list..... I would describe one as 'irritating', one as 'bland ' and one as 'intellectual'... I'll leave the matching to you!.....all great entertainers and professionals and have more talent than I could wish for! Here are my votes....
Mellers (his duck routine is hilarious)
Spill
and a fellow Canadian...David Merry.
