I'm a bit predjudiced...I consider Michael Finney to be the funniest, but then I consider him as a friend. The funniest experience, for me, in over 30 years of magic took place in October of 2000 in St Joseph, Missouri at a teaching seminar when Mike took on the role of a volunteer during a Max Maven lecture. I won't go into detail, but suffice it to say Max was extremely irritated, and the audience was in histerics. Michael is one of the funniest and nicest guys in the business, as well as one of the most underated.

Pete,
Larry Parker is alive and well and living in Cornwall in England. He regularly appears at Magic Circle events and recently, I convinced him to lecture to the Surrey Society of Magicians about his life in comedy. He's a great comic magician and a gentleman. I'm proud that he thinks of me as a friend.
Warmest regards

No one has mentioned "Fielding West".
I thought that anyone who could combine manipulation type magic and funny patter would rule the comedy world because he could expand this act much further than anyone ever has in the past. Bill |

I saw Carl Ballantine on Cosby a few years back and loved every minute of it. The bit with the cut and restored rope getting closer to being restored was great. I also like Fielding West, David Williamson, and Paul Harris. Paul's patter may be off the wall with his early stuff like "Whack your pack" and "tap dancing aces", but I love it. I have been to one of his lectures, the best one I have ever attended.

Great names, every one of them!
Did anyone mention Bob Sheets? I really laughed a lot during the performance part of his lecture. His facial expressions, timing and audience interactions are works of comedic art. I seem to recall enjoying reading the routines and viewing the photos of an English comedy-magician named "Topper". "Avener the Eccentric"..I recally enjoying his off-broadway show, I believe it took place in the early 1980's. I had the brief fortune to "run" into him at a deli near the showsite, during intermission. I recall that he was very humble, yet a very skilled and very funny entertainer. I just located his site at: http://micocci.com/avner/ Enjoy the visit!

Here in New Zealand we do have a number of good comedy magicians. Ken Bates and Jon Zealando are just two. I laughed so hard I just about lost my false teeth!!

He's more of a magical comedian than comedy magician. He's based in the UK and fairly underground at the moment. He has one of the funniest acts I have ever seen. |

Mac Ronay, there was a great comedy act. I booked him, but his SON showed up (he had retired and didn't tell me). Sadly the comedy left with the father and didn't find its way into the son.
DUKE STERN DORNY Larry Gray the Dizzy Wizzard (Vernon talked about him a lot) I saw him and nearly fell out of my chair I laughed so hard. Levent Kozak

I would have to go with Albert Goshman and Doc Eason for a combination of humor and people just feeling good about themselves.
I think that Johnny "Ace" Palmer should get a special mention for making the cups and balls hilarious, especially at the end. |
