Real name: Rick Jackson Habu: Taken from SR-71 spy plane I worked on. It's name came from a poisonous snake on Okinawa. Hope my magic isn't poisonous! |

A member of our IBM ring makes them. I can ask him about it at our next meeting (next week) and get back to you, if you haven't found what you're looking for before then.

Hi Frank:
Joe Stevens sells the Driebeck Die. I bought it and it's excellent - beautifully made. Ron Here's the link: http://www.stevensmagic.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=1327 |

Frank,
Why don't you make a set? I did several years ago and still use them. Just sit down with pencil, paper, and ruler and play with the dimensions. You already understand the concept. I made mine from mat board held together with glue and masking tape, and then they are covered with contact paper. One is black; the other white. I made them about 5" or 6". For each box and lid, lay out the dimensions on the mat board so you have an exploded box. For a single box or lid, you will have a "plus sign" (+) shape. This will consist of five areas. The center of the plus sign will be either the top or bottom, depending on which piece you are making. Each of the four adjacent "wings" of the plus sign will be one of the four sides. Cut out the entire plus sign as one piece. Use an X-acto knife. Now score the fold lines, so that the sides fold (just cut part way through). The sides will still be attached, but will easily "break" along the scored lines. Glue the sides together where appropriate (along the adjacent edges) and secure with masking tape. Proceed as desired to finish and decorate the boxes. Just remember that you have to account for the thickness of the mat board so that the lid of each box fits closely without being too tight or too loose. Same consideration for how one box nests within the other. Make sure your edges, corners, and folds are nice and square. As I said, play with it on paper first. The project is not hard; a little time consuming, but you'll end up with a set just like you want. I wouldn't suggest this process for everyone, but I know you have knowledge of and aptitude for making things. ~michael

If I remember correctly, a year or so ago, on the Café, someone posted a dealer that had these just like the Supreme cardboard ones. Maybe a search on the Café will turn up something.
If you are serious about using this item, then get the Ken Brooke version from Stevens Magic. They are made of plastic and has a kicker ending. Now comes in 2 sizes. http://www.stevensmagic.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=1327 |

I was given a set of boxes with no routine or instructions, although I can work out the basics.
Can anyone point me to a routine in print ? Or sell me one. Thanks. |

I have to echo the comments made on the Driebeck Die from Stevens Magic. This is the best Gozinta box set out there. A video of what it looks like and a possible routine is at the link below (I shot this and put it up, so I know what it looks like...it's great). It is in the Quicktime video section (I have a Mac at home, and that is all I can make).
