Greetings,
I was playing around with my change bag the other day and I began wondering how everyone used there change bag. There are so many options, but what is your favorite? Also, do you use it differently during a gospel show? ~Ron |

I perform for kids. I show a white silk with 4 or 5 black spots on it. Each black spot represents a different sin. I usally names some sins like lying, stealing, making fun of someone, not obeying your parents, etc. and explain to them we have all done some of those things. Then tell how Jesus can forgive us of all our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness as you pull out a white silk.

She used a plain, white, men's handkerchief that was folded several times. She pressed the pen against the silk and held it there (allowing it to 'bleed' through all the folded layers) as she talked about how one lie seems so innocent. She told the class that when you told one lie it became easier to tell another. She then unfolded it once and now there were two spots (thanks to her allowing to 'bleed' through all the layers). She said it became easier, and easier until your life was full of lies. At this point, she unfolded it all the way, and there were around 8-12 (I know it was an even number) black spots from where she had allowed that one spot to appear. At this point, she quickly placed the entire handkerchief tightly in her hand ('invisible ink' vanishes quickly) and began telling us how Jesus came to die for us and cleanse us of our sins, and if we would ask Him, He would come into our hearts and wash all our sins away. She waved her hand over it, unfolded it and the spots were gone! An awesome effect to us kids. If you did it this way though, you might want to practice a few times, because some 'invisible inks' vanish quicker than others.

You might want to look into Buddah papers if you're looking at changes on paper, and not things. A change bag is somewhat familiar, and can (I stress CAN) look gimmicked, but very few people suspect papers to be gimmicked!
When I do a change bag (O.K., yes, I use one!) it's usually just something simple like a rope switch. (Usualy with a multiple-cut rope and 3 fake knots). That way, I can keep the same moves, but only change the patter-whether it's as a demonstration of our sin (the scissors) separating us from Christ, or if it's just a straight gag at a Ren Faire. -Eric |
