Hi guys,
Do any of you have a bizarre effect posted on YouTube ? I'd love to see your presentations, ones where you interact with spectators would be even better. Doug Byrd - Many moons ago, in the MagicTalk forum, there was talk about creating a compilation video of bizarre presentations by forum participants (following the success of the forun's "regular" magic compilation video). Did this come through ? Eli

All I get is static on the sound track. Was that it? OK.
I've been hanging around internet marketing forums and the buzz is Web 2.0, which is basically sites like YouTube and MySpace. There's a huge potential to market yourself or your web site, but you need to get the video right. One ebook I read mentioned Shock, Sex, Cute and Funny as the four topics that are most sought after. With the bizarre in mind, one really shocking Vid and you could get a healthy audience. Leave them wanting more and give them more on your site. Make sure your web address is on the video somewhere. Nothing to do with magic but I love the FunTwo guitar version of Pachebel's Canon. That Korean guy had over 9,000,000 views last I saw. Is that an audience or what!

I didn't hear any of the audio, so I don't know what the presentation was, but.. you were kidding, right ?

My crummy li'l replacement computer won't let me watch the video past the claw, but I think the bill on the knuckles is a very natural (?) gesture. Baba, you should learn much from yout new teacher.

Nine million views? I'm only seven million out!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjA5faZF1A8 Could anyone ever dream they could reach a worldwide audience of that magnitude playing guitar in their bedroom. Whatever magic you're into I guess the web can get your name out there. Have you got a bizarre piece to show the world?

I didn't start the thread, I'm only pointing out a new phase in the way we view entertainment. If you're not into that then no problem.
Perhaps you prefer this type of bizarre magic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYYalx0S8x4

All,
This is rather shamefull. I started this thread expecting to see some real performances from you. After all, bizarre magic is mainly about performance with the actual effect taking secondary place. Where then are all the bizarre PERFORMERS out there ? I expected more from the group than silly videos and adolescent humor.

I think that the effort needed to tape a good bizarre presentation is well beyond most of what the utubers out there produce. A single camera won't do it, not easily. Also you miss a lot of the additional things that go into a bizarre performance. With utube, you get at best two of the senses involved. In live work, I try to use at least 4 if not the 5th (or 6th).
Additionaly, the attention span of most tubers these days does not lend itself to things much longer than 20-30 seconds without some measure of personal involvement. My drawing a line around my hand ona bit of paper is far different from the care I take in making sure the lighting is low and people are relaxed and ready. In opening the Sumi set box, the subtle sound of the grinding the ink on the stone mixing the ink with a drop of water as I explain about things known as sympathetic magic;lighting the incense stick and having that scent stimulation; having the helper select a piece of clean white rice paper from the roll; having the helper trace the line around my hand with the brush and ink, while they think of a single finger on my hand. Having them carefully hold the inked finger of the paper over the stick to singe it, just a little (most actually burn a hole) and watch them jump back as I cry out, showing my hand, and the blister. five minutes for the blister trick? Yes. And they jump and scream concerned that they have truly injured me. Utube? maybe. I will see what I can do, though it might be a while before I can get it done. k

Hi Kay,
Thank you for your answer. You are refereeing to what "utubers produce", or "the attention span of most tubers". But it's not about what the regular users or viewers of YouTube expect to see in a YouTube video - it's about the people in this forum displaying their work for others to learn/appreciate and if acceptable also critique (in a positive manner). You don't need the lighting in your video to be perfect as in a Hollywood film to convey the feeling of your presentation, and I think you can do wonders with a single (even stationary) camera. Personally, I was drooling while reading your blister presentation, I'd love to see that five minute video when you get to film it. P.S. BizarreMagick is a great site.

Personally I think that Bizarre is often too personnal an experience for the audience to carry over video. It doesn't mean anything to someone watching it compared to the people it is being performed with.
