OK, I bought a dove about two weeks ago. I read a lot about care and I have learned a lot of useful things from this forum. For the last two days however, I have found a bunch of feathers around my doves cage. I always let him out for a few hours a day to flap around. Is it normal for him to lose feathers every day?

He is molting, I'm sure he is fine, if it persists then seek your local vet,

In addition to feathers, doves give off a fine white powder. This is normal... the pet stores just don't tell you about it! Make sure you keep this cleaned up or the powder will blow around the house and get everywhere. People with dust alergies really get bugged by this dust. Your new guy may also be a little anxious in his new home... which can lead to feather picking. Take plenty of time with him every day... even when not practicing with him, hold him while you watch tv and talk to him. The more comfortable he feels around you the easier everything becomes.
