The last Rocky I purchased (Rocky IV) sheds worse than a Britney Spears fan!
It also isn't quite as cute as his predecessors.
Anyone know where to get quality Rockys? Or at least know how to keep them from shedding?
Also, are there any decent spring animals made with artificial fur?
I think they wouldn't shed at all.

I LOVE the one you get from Magic Masters. Its a small beginners magic shop, but they've the best I've experimented with. In fact, David Williamson learned how to do his rocky routine from working at that shop and using their animal!

I use roxie raccon and its great. There is one that penguin sells called robbie raccoon, and he looks more realistic than roxie. Roxie is too plush if you are playing it as a "real" animal.

Here is a better idea. You need to do 2 things.

1 kill a racoon.
2 kill a box spring.

Once you have done that let me know I will walk you through the process.

I've owned 4 Magic Masters raccoons and two skunks.
They've been great, however the last two raccoons from MM seem to have the bad shedding problem that I'm trying to avoid.
Roxie is the one from Empire Magic, it looks like a child’s stuffed toy and the spring action is stiff as a corpse. (pun intended)

I bought both a Rocky and a Robbie when I first began working with spring puppets. I LOVE Robbie (from magic makers). He is a bit more lightweight, the spring is a bit thinner (and easier to manipulate faster), and the shedding isn't much of a problem (as soon as he came out of the box, I gave him a good blow-dry and it worked wonderfully). Since it's a magic makers and not an original Rocky, he is a little bit more affordable, making him easier to replace if/when needed.

Just my 2 cents...

Two of the same smart ass answers on one small thread, wow. Smile

Also if you where really to use roadkill, don't bother with the spring, just throw it at people. Throw it in there food. Throw it at the kids. They love it, they scream and run, awwh.

The shedding problem, is hit or miss. To avoid the time of year analogy, I sold them for 10 years at Magic Inc. It happens at one time or another with all brands I have seen. I had heard people come in and complain about all of them.

I have never heard what actually causes it to happen. But every brand has had the issue. Although I do not do a Spring Animal routine, they can indeed be golden in the right hands.

So it's just that time of the year. Good to know, maybe they should give a date on the raccoon as to when it was pelted?
I'll probably stick with Magic Masters for Rocky V.

I WAS TRYING TO AVOID THAT ANALOGY!!! LOL

I was actually trying to be serious and convey, that ALL brands have the problem at one time or another. I have no idea why it happens though.

Thanks for dragging me into my own analogy! LOL

I sell a lot of rocky the raccoons and I have never had anyone tell me that they shed. I use one of them too. No shedding.

Magic Masters makes the best one. There are some knock offs out there that really stink.
Mine has never shed and still going strong after many years.

I stopped using my Rocky because of the shedding problem, as I wear a lot of black clothing.

Anyone know why some roccys have a bigger head as in the cardboard inside as the kneck is longer?

I've owned three Rocky's and all of them shed terribly. Then again, it's probably more apparent as I wear a lot of black, like Rick (in the above post).

I just plan ahead and carry a lint roller. (The disposable adhesives. A lint brush will only frustrate you).
