Pi is approximately equal to 22/7.
Some Europeans celebrate "Pi Approximation Day" on
July 22 since they use 22/7 to denote the 22nd of July.

Pi doesn't equal 3.14. 3.14 is another approximation to
the value of pi. But in the U.S., we celebrate March 14 as "Pi Day,"
since we use 3/14 to denote March 14.

Which is the more accurate approximation to Pi? 22/7 or 3.14?

How do you compare approximations expressed in different terms?

You know how!
My question was a rhetorical one.
Even if you don't know how to express 22/7 in decimal form,
the framing of the question suggests what the correct answer is.

At 26 seconds past 3:09 P.M., we can all have more PI.

"Pi" to 10 decimal places is: 3.1415926535

3.14 is off by .0015926535

22/7 is 3.1428571428... It's off by .0012644893

Since .0012644893 is a smaller difference than .0015926535, then 22/7 is a closer approximation.

Another reason why the Europeans are kicking our butts in math! Smile

But Archimedes, the "22/7" guy, was Greek.
Anyway, we don't kick anyone.

Is that implying Greece isn't in Europe?

22/7 is a pretty lousy approximation too - but it's the one my dad always quoted to me as a kid - a lot better than Alabama's 3 though!

True... then I guess you have to use 1:59 instead...
