All,
The Prestige slipped ahead of the Illusionist in a shocking turn of events. It is now 15 to 14. This is more exciting than watching paint dry. Thanks all for your inputs. Keep them coming. Patrick |

I felt like Edward Norton's character in the Illusionist was a perfect reactment of Robert-Houdin, and the Prestige could be a fictional reactment of Houdini VS Doyle.

It's a close call. I like the type of movies where you don't understand anything until the end, but Prestige had a much darker ending than Illusionist. The final decision:
Prestige, for its ironic ending. By the way, its now 16-14; The Prestige is winning. |

PRESTIGE
though I liked INSOMNIA and BATMAN BEGINS as Nolan's best films... oops not in the category. So PRESTIGE it is. |

I saw the illusionist in the theaters when it first came out. I just rented the Prestige lasst night.
It is a very tough call. Both are excellent movies with twists and turns. Both had turns some of which I saw coming. I am going to say that I liked the Prestige better because it was more exciting. But honestly in this poll I am voting for the Illusionist as I thought it was a better movie overall. BTW: I love Bowie as Nicola Tesla
Magic is like Science,
Both are fun if you do it right! |

PRESTIGE....HANDS DOWN.
Illusionist had a love story to keep the ladies interedted, but the magic was more creative in PRESTIGE.

Great comments guys. It is turning into a landslide. It is now 20 to 15 for the Prestige. It is looking more like the Prestige is Florida and the Illusionist is Ohio State in pretty much any sport. Please keep them coming. Thanks.

I, too, have a hard time picking one over the other because they come from different places. The Illusionist is a mysterious, magical romance story; The Prestige is a suspenceful mystery about what obsession does to people.
I'll admit, though, if I have no other factors influencing which movie to watch, The Prestige gets my vote. Carrie |

I'm afraid I just can't bring myself to vote for The Prestige.
One of the producers Bill Tyrer approached me with an early script in the hopes that I'd consult for the film. However as soon as I saw that the film was going to depict the killing of livestock I walked. It's probably my early 'hippy' upbringing but I just can't bear to see animals hurt real or not, or for the general public to think that's how we achieve our magic. I doubt I'll ever watch the film unless someone reassures me that the dead bird scenes didn't make the final cut. |

Prestige all the way.
Mind you I found it totally unbelievable that magicians could try and steal tricks off each other ! I'm half embarrased to admit it but the film was so entertaining that I never focussed on how Bale was doing his illusion so the answer blew me away. The secret also means that once you've seen the film once you will never view it the same way again as the actions and motivations seem wholly different for the Bale character the second time around. Great film. |
