That Bale character sure seems moody. Even his wife noticed his mood swings. Also kind of hard to beat having both Wolverine and Batman+Alfred in the movie. Even if Alfred was helping Wolverine this time around.

"The illusionist" was extremely obvious to me. They really telegraphed the ending very early on in the film, which (for me) made it rather uninteresting to watch.
For that reason, I prefer "The Prestige." Also, I think the characters in "The Prestige" were far more interesting; David Bowie was great. Why will the first to 100 win best EVER? I, personally, like the Tony Curtis "Houdini" better than both of these. And what about "The Mad Magician?" Vincent Price running around the city with a human head is hard to beat. How about it's the best movie out of these two, based on an unofficial survey of people who happended upon this thread and decided to vote? |

Gotta be The Prestige. I didn't like The Illusionist at all - most of the audience laughed at the butterflies (me along with them) which is quite telling.
Without revealing any plot (for those who haven't seen it), the thing that really annoyed me in The Illusionist was that the twist is revealed at the end via a series of flashbacks by a man who wasn't present for any of them! |

Prestige 24; Illusionist 17. The gap is beginning to widen. Come on all you Illusionist fans, where are you? Thanks to all for your comments.

I really, really, really liked both films. I see what people are saying about Prestige being a better made film, and I thought the story was very creatively told.
However, for what I liked better, my vote is for The Illusionist. That movie really inspired me magically. |

I liked the Illusionist but prefered Prestige for the several reasons. The outcome of Illusionist I felt was pretty obvious, but the Prestige kept me guessing. And while you knew who the bad guy was right away in the illusionist, you never really know until the end of the Prestige (and if then, both charcters were equally likable and dispicable at the same time).
But my vote for the best magic movie of all time? GET TO KNOW YOUR RABBIT....just kidding but I loved Orson Welles in that movie! |

I'm gonna go with the Illusionist for 2 reasons.
One I liked the way the magic was presented in the Illusionist better Two and this is the big one, I read the book "The Prestige" long before I saw the movie. I liked the book but the film took away almost everything I liked about the original story.

Anyone using that theme to do a trick where you clumsly hide a deformed dupe somewhere after the magic was supposed to happen?
