A MONSTER crocodile that ripped a chunk of flesh from a horse's throat, then terrorised Lockhart River residents for three days has been caught.

Nicknamed Houdini after managing to twice steal the bait out of traps set for it, the 4.5m reptile was caught after trying the same trick a third time.

This goes to prove you should never repeat a trick - even if your name is Houdini and you are a monster crocodile.
Never criticize someone else until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Then, when you do criticize them, you will be a mile away from them and you will have their shoes.

I'll be sure to remember that, in case the situation happens. Smile

Well, if it bored the horse to death they might have named it Blaine.

I agree!

Most night's I can rip a horse's throat out and it go completely undetected. Of course I'm using some pretty strong misdirection by terrorizing one of the spectators on the front row...

I only get "busted" when there's a wise guy in the audience who has seen the show before and knows what to look for during the horse trick!

MagicSanta,

Everyone in my part of the world can tell you who Houdini is, as evidenced by this story. Remote and isolated as Lockhart River is, they automatically associate his name with an 'escape artist', despite the fact they've probably never seen footage or even a photo of him.

On the other hand, if I walked down the street, and asked 100 people, I doubt one could tell me who David Blaine is. They might vaguely remember a bloke in a perspex cage swinging above London.

This is no criticism of Blaine - merely perspective of how far ahead of the pack Houdini is.

We all know Houdini is the father of Australian aviation.

That must be why flying crocodiles are always nicknamed Houdini also.

I wonder how many cultures in the world do associate Houdini with amazing escape.

Certainly the western ones - but what about Asia, the middle East and Africa?

I find it fascinating that Houdini honestly thought that the big thing that he would be remembered for most was being the first person documented as having flown over australian skies. We're coming up on the anniversary of that event, aren't we?

It excited him so much he spelt Australia with a capital A.

edit: on reflection that sounds harsh - wasn't meant to be - sorry.
