Hello all! I recently purchased Harlan's Rubber Band videos Vol 2-3. Since I have never worked with RB's (save for CMH) could anyone suggest the best tricks to learn from these videos? The all seem great to me!
I don't yet have volume one so please don't include material that's taught on it. Thanks in advance!

It's a bit hard to say because everyone will think different things. Why don't you just watch the videos and decide for yourself which effects you like the best?

Hi Bill, Harlans video no 1
is his best.however you will find many excellent effects on all the videos. My suggestion after CMH then Simon Aronsons linking finger ring and rubber band routine. I believe Dan teaches this on one of his videos. Finally Chris Kenners Missing Link. The linking and un linking of two bands is very visual. The effect is a killer hope this helps vinny ps pm me if you want some more information |

Adam,
I have watched them and as I said they all seem great! I was just looking for some input as to what effects got the best reaction from the audience. I may think something looks great but it might not play very well for others. Thanks for the input! Cheers!

I'm not sure where you can find it but there's an effect called Travelling Cash which I think is great.

Harlan also has a separate A1 video, which he performs mostly different band effects for Mike Maxwell. It is also a great tape to get.

Get Michael Ammar's torn and retored rubberband to go along with CMH.

Adam,
I believe that the “Traveling Cash” trick (where a folded dollar bill moves up and down a rubber band ladder held between the finger of both of the performers hands) may be found on the Dan Harlan A-1 ”Band Shark” video. The effect can also be done with a ring.

Hi
Are you sure it can be done with a ring? Spectator can fold his bill around a single "strip" of a closed rubberband.. his bill will travel four times (2 rubber band ladders, 4 strips)... If you want to do this with a spectator's ring, you have to use a ring with a open part. But the use of a bill is a great way to bring the spectator into play with you... Magic Chris |

Where is the best place to learn a torn and restored rubber band effect? Ammar was mentioned...which of his tapes teach it?
Thanks again for all the input!

I've also been told that Greg Wilson does a T and R band effect on his 'off the cuff' video. Is this the same as the Ammar version? I'm guessing the Wilson one is more impromptu.

I don't know if there is or can be a "more" impromptu version than Ammar's version...
It uses just one single normal rubberband.. no setup or gimmicks.. just some sleight of hands. You can find THE BROKEN & RESTORED RUBBER BAND, CRAZY MAN'S HANDCUFFS and TRAVELING CASH (A spectator wraps a folded dollar bill around the top strand, and holds on. Then, one by one, the money jumps from the top down, one strand at a time) on Michael Ammar's Video: "Classic Renditions 2" http://store.yahoo.com/ammarmagic/rubbanmagpro.html You can find THE BROKEN & RESTORED RUBBER BAND also on Michael Ammar's Video: "Ice Breakers" Hope this helps Magic Chris |

I don't know of any version that can use a ring. Magic Chris is right about the way the effect works, doing it with a ring must involve another method.

Magic Chris, I took a look at the link and it looks like a great video. Does Harlan teach a Torn and Restored effect on either of the three RB magic vids he has out? I just was able to purchase volume 1...everyone said it's his best!
Thanks... Bill

I think Harlan's vol 1 teaches a torn and restore in a different way. It is a good video.

Bernard,
Is Harlan's version as good as Ammar's?

I agree with vinny. Chris Kenner's effect where 2 rubberbands link is quite good.
they are shown unlinked. They immediately link. They are displayed linked together. they are unlinked and displayed and handed out. I showed this to my father in-law who usually likes to watch but does not say too much about. This time, he could not help himself... "Ok, that is physically impossible. How do you do it." Later, knowing I had Kenner's book... "Are you going to tell me how you linked those rubberbands or am I going to have to read about it myself." Honestly, the setup is not difficult but it is time consumming. I cannot picture it happening fast enough to do in front of people. I can see walking up to people with the setup all done. Then do the link. Anyway, Vinny is right. This is awesome.

Harlan's is easier to do, but Ammar's more visual which uses the same method as Kenner's Missing Link. Missing Link can also be found in Harlan's video.

Kenners missing link is the best rubber band link out there ,(missing link).
If you are looking for a finger ring and rubberband link and unlink, then it is in Simon Aronsons book . "try the impossible " I believe Harry Lorayne created the broken and restored rubber band called snap. It is found in one of his videos "classic magic secrets" Yes Harlans videos on rubber band magic are excellent. vinny |
