I will be flying in from NY and staying in Orange County CA from April 1 - 7th. If any magicians want to attempt to get together PM me. I am looking to visit the Magic Castle if I can. Also if anyone knows of any other magic "must see" please let me know. I would love to see some of you guys work the punters. Thanks Matt

See if you can get hold of John Zander at Zander Magic. He is the crowned prince of magic in Orange County and can direct you the right way and he is also a heck of a nice fellow (he is too talented though).

Also, I would suggest calling the Magic Castle for reservations - they don't take walk-ins if you're not a member.............

I didn't know they took reservations. I figured if you weren't a member, or recommended by a member, you didn't get in!

You can get a pass from a member or call and tell them you are in the IBM and you can get in. Dress code is enforced.

You still need to call ahead for a reservation, even with the pass. They still need to know which dinner time you want to reserve.
If you're interested in the main show, skipping out on dinner once you arrive is no longer an option. Last time I was there, the waiter gave you the show passes only after you finished your dinner.

I'm sorry, yes you need to reserve your place. Do expect to have dinner there, if people just show up for the shows then no mas club.

I figured they took reservations from members. I just didn't figure there was any way to <make> a reservation unless you were a member or could show magic club membership.

If you are not a member you need a pass from a member, there are two types of passes a VIP pass and a regular pass. With the VIP pass you don't have to pay the "admission fee" with the regular pass you do. The castle has limited space and you need to at least a minimum of a week in advance, once you have a pass, call and make a reservation, earlier is better. There are often special events at the castle and you may not get your first choice of nights. Of course if you go with a member, the member will make the reservation. Members have a very limited number of VIP passes they can give out each year, but pretty well unlimited regular passes. A pass gets you an admission similar to that of an associate member or non magician. You cannot get access to magician only areas, you have to be a magician member to get that, but for dining, the shows in the bars and main showrooms you can get into. I honestly don't remember the admission fee right off the top of my head, since I'm a member and don't pay it, but I think it is like $15 or $20 a person. This is in addition to any food and drink. On weekends there are lunches which are less expensive than most evening dinners, but you need advanced reservations for those too. A dinner there could easily run you 40 bucks or more a person, it isn't cheap. A member can email you a pass if you don't have time to run out to your nearest member's home or office to get one. There is a strict dress code that is enforced (printed on the pass and on the website for the castle) and there is also a policy of no cameras no autographs which is enforced.

Well, since I don't know any members (not to mention not having a chance to even get <on> the Left Coast!) It's all moot.
But thank you for the information.
