The April issue has a short biography on Richard "The Cheat" Turner. I had never heard of this man before reading this issue, but what a story! This man took a major adversity, being blind, and turned it into a major asset. He is now considered one of the best card technicians in the world. Even Dai Vernon said so, and he knew Turner for over 17 years up to the time of his death.
In addition to his card work, Turner has also gotten several black belts in various martial arts disciplines, competed in major tournaments, managed to become a world record holder in coin manipulation, flown several planes, written a novel, done shark fishing and still found time to raise a family. This man proves that the word CAN'T should never be in anyone's vocabulary.

I don't pull out the word astonishing very often, but when I saw him in Chicago last year, he was truly astonishing to watch. It took me about a half hour to notice his blindness! I just thought he didn't look at the deck to prove a point!

An amazing guy, with an amazing act. I've seen him work a couple of times and he just blows me away. Bill Malone and I were discussing him until the early hours after one of his performances. Bill really couldn't believe what he had just witnessed and that's saying something.

It is extremely rare for the pupil to surpass the master. In this case, I truly think Turner has done just that!

Now that Richard has retired he has more time to perform lectures. The ones I've been able to go to were fantastic. He is truely a cardmans cardman.

This would be one lecture I would love to see. Then again, being in Alaska, off the road system... I haven't seen a lecture in a LONG time (insert sad music here).

Maybe the new "Lecture Network" website might come to the rescue of us "frustratingly far away" folks (I live on the other side of the planet to the Brilliant Mr Turner!).
