He was supposed to have jotted down notes on any slip of paper that came to hand, and then had someone else organize them into books.
Considering his reputation as a thief of material, how likely does anyone think it, that he'd be given accurate information? Miracle Mongers has much fiction.

I believe that there is an alloy called Woods Metal which has a melting point lower than that of antimony. One of its useless uses is in molding soup spoons that come apart in hot soup.

Well taken, its just that I noticed that all this stuff here is easily available to some one who just does google searchs, hence use of PM plus some just want to know for knowing sake....Time wasters Wood's metal is a mixture of 50% bismuth, 25% lead, 12.5% tin, and 12.5% cadmium. It melts at a temperature of 158° Fahrenheit (70 Celcius), ( some mixtures at 62 celcius) Do you want to put this in your mouth ? |

Wood's metal has cadmium. Cadmium is toxic and is not something that anyone should be putting in their mouths or even touching with their hands. True, in the days of yore, when environmental toxins and heavy metals were not a recognized problem, people did (and maybe still do) use this for the metal spoon effect. However, hopefully people are a bit more enlightened now and their health (and the health of others and the environment) matters to them.
I do this stunt and place my fingers into molten metal but I would advise everyone to stay away from this stunt unless you really know how it works. So far, nothing listed above (like the asbestos sheath) is practical unless you want to put your health at risk...What I mean to say is: Yes it COULD be done like that but the idea here is to minimize your health risk, not expose yourself to cancer and/or burn your fingers off.

Jeremy, think there was a bit of a misunderstanding with that, I was using the sheath as an example of something that inherently the average person would realize is just ridiculous and use their common sense. Especially some of the people in this section of the forum that no the proper technique for fire manipulation. I think the best way to wrap all this up is if we all use our better judgement and common sense we can avoid the things that might hurt us.
On a seperate note, I'm rather interested in the molten metal stunt that your speaking of. Any chance of discussing that in a pm? If so shoot me one and I'll discuss what I've been working on further. |

An absestos sheath is one of the least ridiculous explanations I've heard for fire-eating over the years from people who've been dead sure they 'knew' how it was done.
I've long given up trying to throw them off the scent - now I just tell the truth - I sold my soul to the devil. Destiny |

In the past {Less than 20 years ago) Things were different, knowledge of what harms you and being politicaly correct did not exist.
I have cut asbestos sheets without wearing a mask, indeed on ocassion returning home covered in the dust looking like a snowman. I have performed dozens of suspended escapes with only the support of car seat belts picked up from the scrapyard and tied together. Swallowed hemp and char covered brands from the asbestos tipped fire brands etc etc. Things are different today,,,,better,,,,maybe, but if you like, our ignorance was bliss. If we believe everything the so called experts tell us we would steer clear of meat, butter, salt, cigs, sex, booze, large cars, all the things which in life have given me so much pleasure. I have outlined the method used by myself, Jonny Eagle,Blondini and several others who have made their living from this type of work,,the methods were passed on down the line from Master to pupil,,,sure we all take chances, we are in the biz for the buzz,,, so if you want to stay really safe, stay indoors and do card tricks in front of the mirror,,,,,come to think of it,,,,cards are covered in a deadly substance (Can`t remember what) So it`s only a matter of time before these will be banned as well ! You can never be too careful.
Water, which I always assumed to be safe, can apparently over-hydrate you. I intend sticking to rum. |

Jerseyrebel13:
No, I didn't misunderstand. I agree with you and was tagging on. As far as Kondini's method, I cannot comment. I don't know what is in that stuff, and honestly, I missed his post. So I hereby modify my previous statment that "So far, NOTHING listed above (like the asbestos sheath) is practical". His method may be practical, safe and is probably way less expensive than mine. The method I know was shared to me by Slim. So, I withdraw that statement. But I urge people to leave antimony, cadmium and other heavy metals alone. I am curious about the "13". Were there 12 JerseyRebels before you? 1) Died by asbestos 2) Died by failed escape using only the support of car seat belts picked up from the scrapyard and tied together 3) Died by swallowing hemp covered fire brand 4) Died by char covered brand 5) Died by asbestos tipped fire brands 6) Died by too much meat 7) Died by too much butter 8) Died by too much salt 9) Died by too much cigs 10)Died by too much sex (I'd love to be him) 11) Died by booze 12) Died after being hit be a large cars 12a.) (Little brother, cut down in his prime before officially becoming Jerseyrebel12) Died touching cards 12b.) (Another little brother)...of course death by overhydration

That seriously has had me cracking up for like 10 minutes now. Thanks for the history which I shall now claim as my own legend. Actually it's much more boring than that. I come from a second generation Italian family and the number 13 is actually considered to be lucky, you may see that many Italians or people of Italian descent will sometimes where charms with the number on them. My grandfather wore one on his watch, as did my father. I opted to just get it tattooed on me, go figure. And to touch on the safety matter, some famous guy once said, "It's not a matter of whether you will get or hurt or not, but a question of when and how badly".....I think it might have been Jesus or Groucho Marx. Anyway all we can do is minimize the statistics at this point.

I feel Exactly the same way about it , in fact I do quite a lot of performances for these said experts and two other things that's on their list of things to avoid are intuition and risk. from Tony |

Yes, I am working on the method of death by sex,,, I hope it takes me a few more years of research !!!!! So 13 is lucky eh! You wouldn`t say that if you had 13 kids! Ken |

I had heard of a performer back east who was strapped into a straight jacket, and suspended upside down by a rope that was set aflame that held him over a vat of beautiful, naked, 18 year old women covered in oil.....he never did make it out alive.
Died of a hard attack...

I hope he at least made it into the vat first.
Otherwise it was probably just a stroke. |
